Can anyone advise me?? Shaung may be able to help if you read this.  We are borrowing a motorhome and have no experience of using one  We would like to book a pitch at Butlins Skeg but have found out that they don't do hard pitches , they do grass pitches with electric hook up.

Do you think that a grass will be ok?

Many thanks for reading - feedback would be really appreciated.

Sarah

There is absolutely nonthing wrong with a grass pitch as long you make sure the ground is hard and dry before you get on it, 75% of pitches on campsites througfhout the uk are grass pitches so you have nothing to worry about, enjoy your break.

If have choice of pitches try to choose one with a slight drop that will allow water to run off rather than a pitch that might collect water. Unless there has been a period of heavy rain like recently you should be ok.

It also depends on the type of soil, I'm guessing soil at Skeg might be sandy so water should sink through rather than stay on top & waterlog it like clay tends to.

Wet grass and motorhomes are not a happy marraige more so if the grass is fairley long. As previously stated the soil condition is also a factor.

We have been pulled of more grass pitches than I can count. Thats OK so long as there is a tugger available.

To save the hassle. Beg,borrow or.......aquire! some old bread trays, used for delivering bread to shops and freely available really. Slice them into managable strips and park up on them when you arrive on site under the wheels. They stop you sincking into the earth and give enough traction to get you of the pitch.

Job done.

Well we went last year, a massive area, but only allowed so many to pitch by council - according to site manager who was a very nice chap, so you could basically pitch as and when, only 4 of us there in October last year, youre not far off the road, so I always reverse up on my chocks to get a " run up " on such grassy sites anyhow.

Read the reviews, but to me as a weekend venue its SO expensive, Skegness Sands or Skegness Water better options
