Hi, just got myself a fully serviced 6 year old motorhome from a motorhome dealer and there is no paperwork to say the gas systems have had a yearly check, would anyone know if this should/must be done and have paperwork to show this? Thanks, Bobby.

There is no regulation to have a gas safety check carried out on a regular basis (as far as I am aware).

If the vehicle has had a habitation service(ie service on the accommodation part of motorhome separate from mechanical service)this will include a check on the gas appliances, provided the job has actually been done there will have been a check for gas leaks & a check that all appliances are working properly although actually servicing appliances, cleaning burners etc is not part of a normal service & is generally only done on an as needed basis.

No certificate is legally required afaik & insurance co's don't require one. You will just have to trust that supplier dealer has carried out the service fully & correctly.

I should have said before Welcome to the forum....

If it was part of the deal, then yes, you should have a certificate. That is an agreement between you and the vendor. Not a legal requirement

I would add that gas safety in a motorhome is mainly about checking gas appliances are functioning ok on an ongoing basis, you would certainly be able to smell any gas leak.

We have just renewed our MH insurance and I noticed for the first time that one of the clauses states,

If a fire is caused by a gas applicance that has not been annually serviced, then the insurance is nul and void.

Best check your insurance just incase and then make sure it has been done.  Cannot see the point of paying insurance and then not been able to claim on a technicality.
