I don't know what the technical differences are but the post 2006 appears to be a total redesign. The pre 2006 Autosleeper Inca we owned was very noisy when travelling and the doors rattled as you drove along and this was a new vehicle, it  also had a 5 speed gearbox.

The 2008 Burstner on a Fiat was a lot quieter although the earlier ones had certain well documented gearbox problems.

We picked up a 2012 Peugeot Boxer panel van about 4 weeks ago ready to do a conversion and even though it was an empty panel van the cab seems to have got even better.

Mike

Completely new look front cosmetics, and not before time. More streamlined sweeping headlights rather than the rectangular ones previously. As Mike says, this new model did have gearbox problems, it was a silly design for a gearbox. Seems reverse gear was lower than 1st. Meaning you had to rev the pants of it to go backwards, whilst slipping the clutch. Just the ticket for a new vehicle, like who would pay for new clutch? They were forced by the number complaints to put in a new reverse gear. Said the problem was only with 5 gear models, and those with 6 gears not affected....WRONG! We bought a brand new Pug Boxer in 2008...same probs, but Peugot when I emailed them , put hands up straight the way and put parts on order and did it within 3 weeks (at no cost) so I would say, having seen the trouble Fiat caused their customers, that Pugs shifted their backsides, and without question. I would say to you that if you asked the question because you are thinking of buying one....that you should check that this work has been done. Warranty useless now.

completely different vechiles. Completely different engine,s body shapes and even chassis.

In essence they are two completely different vans named the same. The pre 05 was a good van with a great engine unit but was looking a little dated. The post 06 is a dream to drive I have 6 gears pulls like a train handles superb and very well kitted out. Oh, and mine goes backwards too, with no mods and no problems.

Always had the fiats, never ever had a problem
