Hi,

Need some advice, want to fit a Fiamma safari room sides and front onto my existing fixed wind out awning.

First, what is the difference  between zip and clip fitting

Second, there seems to be various types of sides and front, does this determine size( height ) or is determined by lengh of fixed awning

Thirdly, there are a number of these safari rooms sold on e-bay, any problems been picked up by anyone on the forum

Any advice grately appreciated, Trevchrizy

Hi

In response to your third point,I've gathered.from reading on here(and on other forums),that the Safari/Prvacy rooms are very bulky and heavy to cart about..and can be a bit of a b*ll ache to put up...which results in a lot of folk not using them and flogging them on...and instead just opting for a awning of sorts(driveaway or simple porch),connected to the awning groove in the body of the windout...

It'd be worth doing a search on here because they've been discussed a far bit in the past...

If it's just for a bit of privacy/shelter,some folk use these:

http://www.mysunshade.co.uk/

Having said that,if you tend to stay put for a week at a time and can come across a suitable second hand one at a real knock down price, then maybe they'd be okay for you...

Thanks Pepe 63,

Food for thought, ya I can see the heavy part could be a disadvantage.I have a drive away awning, which I used when I drove the M/H around, since then I bought a scooter and rack, so as we spend a few nights at one site, would like something easy to erect ( found the drive away awning ackward ) had look at wind breakers, worth a thought.

Thanks again TrevChrizy

Hi again..

Yeah,we had a driveaway(Movelite)a few years back, which we found a bit of a faff to put up,so sold it on before ever using it in anger...

Slightly off topic..but on our previous van(which had a Fiamma fitted),I mounted a separate awning rail to the underside of the Fiamma awning box assembly,by way of a tidy aluminium angle(..If you're interested/curious about the idea and what it looked like,I will put a photo of it in my Gallery...just give me  a shout..)

This arrangement provided a secure fixing point(with very little gap,as you get when using the groove in the Fiamma)and it enabled us to use an "ordinary" lightweight(..and easy to put up!) caravan type porch awning...

We have a Kampa Rally 260 which is a doddle to put up. Took us about 20 mins from start to nearly finish.

We had pegged the salient points only.

3 poles, 3 guys, 200 pegging ladders

Mind you - the doors all have 3 pegging ladders as well so we didn't peg them.

forget he safari room, we had one, nothing ut a pain the arse with regards to storage, weight and putting up. Got rid of it after saw these at a show

http://www.windblockers.net/

They are great, take seconds to put up, and even if it sraing when taking them down they are so small its not an issue, very light and they do a great job. have had ours for about 4 years now, would not be without it

We purchased one of these for our motorhome about 2 yrs ago, and sold it after 6months, they are easy to put up after a bit of practise, but to be honest, there just to flimsy, if it's windy then you will know you have a fiamma awning fitted to your van believe me!, my advice is to stick to the drive aways, don't go with the fiamma safari room, you will regret it like we did.

Hey buberluggs you like to get your point across don't you

We have the windbreaks and they are great. obviously not designed for keeping heat in but excellent for stopping wind.

Thanks for all feedback, looks like too much going for the safari room, rethink is required,

thanks again TrevChrizy
