We have a 20 year old diesel T4 that is continuing to shred alternator belts. We have tried everything - even changed the alternator, but the problem continues. Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so, can you help with any advice?? Pretty desperate to get this sorted but am at a dead end with the problem.....

Don't know anything about T4's, but one thing to check is whether the pulleys are aligned. I had a problem on an old vehicle where a previous owner had put a spacer on the alternator mounting bracket in the wrong place, and that wore the belt really quickly.
Thanks for your replies - I have checked the alignment and all is good. I need to replace the pully's due to corrosion but the parts are obsolete - anyone know a site where I can get discontinued VW parts?? Cheers, Mark.

have you looked to see if the pulleys are rusty. have known rusty pulleys eat belts .
good rub with some emery paper usually sorts them out.
they can soon rust if left standing for awhile.
wel you know they are rusty sorry missed that post .try a good rub.
