Just come back from the show, ie, one day early WHAT A WASH OUT, why didn't the organisers cancel it??? Mud and more mud everywhere to the point you couldn't walk around, no matter how much bark and straw they put down, it just made it worse, campers had to be towed off and queueing up for the tractor, i for one will not be attending such event again, i think the organisers only see dollar bills in front of their eyes. I wonder how many people will agree or disagree on this one. If it had not been for a friend coming all the way from Sandhurst (Surrey) i would have definetely not gone considering all the bloody rain we had it was only to be expected to be one glorious wash out.
Well i have already booked the Western motorhmoe show at Malvern, AND I DO HOPE that the weather will be a lot better, its the only time/s that we get to meet some old friends from Hastings/Guilford/Camberley and Oxford, otherwise i would give it a miss, although it is one of the best motorhome show on offer.
We too have just got back. We had to be towed on but managed to drive off easily.
To be honest we are glad that we went. We had a great time and enjoyed Alvin Stardust and Marmalade even though they are a bit before our time. Easily managed to get a good seat and the place not as crowded as usual.
I agree that the organisers would have lost £££ had they called it off. Perhaps it would have been better if they had informed everyone of the mud and offered a refund for those who didn`t wish to attend. Personally we would still have gone despite having a dog who we took round the show and looked like a swamp monster after.
Apart from a shower on Saturday afternoon the weather was not too bad and we even had a BBQ on Saturday night.
Don`t rule out going to other MMM shows. Take some wellies and stop at the jetwash on the way home. Seek shelter in the beer tent when it rains.
We went to as weekend campers but went Saturday instead of Friday as planned due to the awful weather.
Well what can you say. The camping fields were full of pools of water and thick mud. This was not helped by the tractors Warners had brought in as their way of ensuring the show went on. They went up and down all day the green one at speeds to fast for the location. They continued driving round churning up the bits that weren't bad. As for a lie in (forget it) they were at it from first think. Just up and down, why they didn't give a mobile number for those requiring the tractor and not have it going all day and evening.
We were shoved into a bit with an approach just wider than the van, go wrong and you were stuck.
As for the exhibition area. People in wheelchairs or with prams were grounded. Older people were struggling in a sea of stinking slime.
We didn't see some of it as it just wasn't worth the mud. We had suitable footwear but some day visitors mustn't have realised.
The disabled campers must have struggled to get into the exhibition area as I couldn't see a non muddy route.
I rang them on Wednesday to see how it was going as I knew we had constant remain for weeks. Their reply was tractors to haul people on and off. They just appear adamant to go ahead as if people decide not to go then they can keep the money (campers or exhibitors) but if they cancel it's refunds to pay. Wonder if they had weather cancellation insurance ?
I hope people will use the feedback forms to point this out to Warners.
I have pre booked on this occasion and in the past but with the expectation that the organisers would do the right thing.
Obviously it's just profit based and I probably will never pre book with them again.
Numbers seemed down and one set of marshalls said they had lots of no shows (but profit to Warners)
Took about 2 hours to get the stinking slime out of the wheel arches on the van.
We went to the free entertainment with a singer from Paper Lace - not bad and the real ale bar was ok with plenty of choice.
It just should never have gone ahead as everyone near here knew how much rain there has been lately.
Bet their pre bookings are down next year.
Enjoy it ? It was ok and we enjoy being away but.....
we went on sat, even prepared with wellies, and what a mess it was, like glastonbury mud and more mud. and there didn't seem to be a lot of stalls cost me £13 to get in, felt sorry for the traders having people going into the new vans spreading mud over the floorings. would i go again NO! not worth it.
I cant believe folk would expect anything different to the Somme on grass events, given the incessant monsoons weve had.
We were laughing on Saturday in the monsoon about 2.30pm that we think they will be finding flip flops etc in the mud for months to come. Even hiking boots were getting sucked into the mud.
I did consider this one but went camping with friends in Northallerton instead and had a mainly dry and sunny weekend.
I guess the weather's poured scorn on most festivals this year and I've got to say I'd be disappointed if we let it get the better of us. I went to CamperJam earlier this month and the mud was a nightmare in the main areas but the camping was fine (once we'd been towed onto the field) and we had an absolute ball of a weekend. I'm booked onto other festivals and will be going regardless of the weather, if the alternative is a summer of no shows, then give me mud any time.
The organisers can't alter the weather and whatever they do, they'll come in for criticism, either for the mud or for cancelling and disappointing many. I'm definitely in the Keep Calm and Wear Wellies corner on this one. ... ;)
