Just wondered if people knew of a site or anywhere I can get information on campsites/parking places where a "commercial" vehicle like a D.I.Y Ford Transit camper would be made welcome, as constantly seem to be getting " No sorry we don't allow that type of vehicle".
Looking mostly around the Weston, Barry, Porthcawl kind of regions, any help would be very much appreciated!!

Has the vehicle got windows? If so, you should be OK

Is the vehicle sign written? If so, then very few sites would let you on

Hi, Unfortunately most sites do have a No Comercial rule. As Happy Bonzo says....windows are good, signwriting is bad. Is your van equiped as a camper full time or is it just pack it for camping, with all of your gear and maybe sleep in it if it is bad weather. You will find sites that will be o.k for you, but at the moment none come to mind. IF you have fitted it out as a camper, invite the site owner to have a look inside. Good luck.

Yes she has windows and no she hasn't got any sign writing on her, also she hasn't even got a towbar, so as one campsite owner told me, you might be a gypsy and steal a caravan lol.
It also has a cooker, sink, bed and leisure battery so it is pretty much a full time camper.

You shouldn't have any problems at a Camping and Caravanning Club site - Quote: "Sleeping in private cars or vans with side and rear windows is allowed on Club sites, provided the vehicle has specially designed internal sleeping accommodation such as fully reclining seats and fitted curtains. A tent attachment for changing purposes must be erected." (Think that last bit is only intended to refer to cars and smaller car-based vans)

Sounds pretty much like a campervan to me even if it is a bit DIY. I'm sure there must be sites that would be happy with it if it's described as a "self build campervan" - ie don't make it out to sound worse than it is and certainly don't call it a commercial vehicle. There's lots of panelvan conversions based on Transits so the fact that it's a transit shouldn't be a problem.
Seen plenty of DIY type vans on C&CC sites, but unfortunately there aren't any C&CC sites in the area you are looking in (nearest are St Davids, Rhandirmwyn and Cardigan Bay)

...and Weston Super Mare, though this is one of the few "members only" sites.

hi

we've got a self build camper van, its an LDV convoy, we just say we are a camper van if we book in advance

been on 3 sites in last month and even though we get some funny looks for the art work we have'nt had any negativity about the type of campervan we are in.

good luck with the search and camping

sharon

Stick a few wavey line graphics on the side and call it an autosleep duetto or something. Have these campsite owners never seen a panel van conversion? - brand new they cost more than a coachbuilt motorhome.
