Hoping to travel abroad for a couple of months in our new Atuotrail tracker for the first time, are normal credit/Debit cards accepted in the fuel stations ie Visa mastercard or do i need to get a different card do not want to take cases of Euros as pay load is not huge
We use a credit card in France, no problem on Autoroutes during the day, you often pay in the shop.
I've never used a 24 hours pump, others may be able to advise on that. But supermarkets mostly have a paybox during the day, and take credit cards.
You'll have no problem with Visa and Mastercard cards, either debit or credit. You'll even find petrol stations with self-service pumps taking cards when the pay station is closed.
You can also draw Euro from cash machines, just as in the UK. Put in your card and it will recognise that it's not local and ask you which language you'd like. Tap on English and from then on it's as normal.
We never pre-buy Euro in the U.K. and just stop at the first motorway services or small town and find a cash machine. Use your debit card though and not your credit card for cash.
This applies to non-Euro countries as well of course, such as Croatia. Just use a cash machine when you enter the country.
I think everybody has forgotten to mention that most important fact,ie, CLEAR YOUR CARD WITH the card provider first, tell them where/which country you are visiting, oherwise they will assume the card has been stolen and cancel it
Cheapest places for diesel in France are supermarket fuel pumps. some have pay booths open shop hours some are card only, all the card pumps I have used now seem to take UK cards. Some are tight to fit a large motorhome so check first but you will save 10cents/litre or more over motorway prices.
In Spain there are no shortage of roadside fuel stations with no access problems & all I've used take UK cards.
Don't forget to use a card that gives the day's exchange rate without commission, such as the PO. Your usual card/bank card will work out expensive otherwise.

You can tell them all you want, but the muppets at the call centre probably won't do anything, maybe tell their mates to burgle your house!
It's worth looking at what your current cards will cost to use over there. Many credit card companies add 3%, or more, as a fee to every transaction. There are cards available if you shop around which do not charge for use abroad.

I suspect that if there was any truth in this ridiculous conspiracy theory that it would have been noticed by now. Apart from which I don't know many bank employees who have a network of criminal friends all over the U.K.
I always do it (online) and have done it for many years and I haven't been burgled yet.
I wonder if you don't tell your newsagent for the same reason and let the papers pile up? A local shop is much more likely to know local criminals!
Perhaps you don't mention it to anyone at work either, just in case those 'muppets' are bent as well? I prefer to go on holiday without any paranoid delusions about a service provider organising a break-in at my home! It makes for a much more pleasant trip.
You'll find that self service/24 hour pumps often won't accept your UK credit card, I had a problem last month in Campitello di Fassa, I had to wait for the gas station to re-open after lunch!
