Hi,

I wonder if any of the Northern Ieland-based members out there can advise me about insurance. We are having a van converted in a couple of months and will need to change the insurance from van to motorhome at that time. I looked into motorhome insurance last October when we bought the van and discovered that there are only a few companies that will cover residents of Northern Ireland! [Apparently, this is not due to 'the Troubles' but is due to a high susceptibility to whiplash!]

Do any of you have experience of the companies that do cover NI and can you advise for or against any of them?

Linda I don,t know about the specific insurance you are after but I use the following for car, caravan and home insurance. They have an office in Belfast. Hope this is of some help.

Dolmen - £295.00 fully comp for a 30k van. They don't do no claims bonus, but at that price you can't blame them.

For comparison - insurance on a 30k car costs me about 1800 quid a year

The insurance I need will be for a Movano converted to a campervan, but which I also will use as my daily vehicle, including to and from work.

Does anyone know what has happened to the Motorcaravan Club of Ireland? They were a source of insurance when I was checking this out last October, but the website has gone and my e-mails have not been delivered. Last October, the only way in which Allianzdirect (my prevoius car insurers) would insure a motorhome was via this route, but that may have changed of course.

I'll check out the Carnfunnock event - not yet sure of plans at that time.

Noel Humphries Insurance will charge you a fee (£30 ?) on top of the Dolmen price.

Best to go direct to Dolmen and bypass the fee!
