hi to all,i ask for some addvice on tyres befor,i got 215 x 70r x 15,& i have a set of new 225x70rx15 given to me,should i use them or sell them and get the right size, thanks wango,
Non standard sized tyres possibly regarded as a modification by ins.co. So perhaps worth a phone call to check. If fitted to drive axle your speedo might be a couple of % slow as larger size would slightly raise gearing..
As Tentz says, the new tyres are 2% oversize - see here
I doubt if you'll notice any difference - it might even make your speedo more accurate, if fitted to the driven wheels, as most seem to read much faster than the actual speed. It is, however, recommended that the new tyres are always fitted to the rear wheels.
they will make little difference to your car, if there in good condishion have them fitted,as long as your changing them in pairs, if you do only have 2 i would put the wider ones to the rear, different size rears is standard on quite a few high end cars.
what??? the diff between 215 & 225 is 10 mm this is the foot print of the tyre on the road surface it will not alter the speedo, all it will do is put more rubber on the tarmac, so just go get them fitted.... 10mm is the thickness of a biro

It is true that the 215/225 is the width of the tyre in millimeters.
The 2nd figure on the tyre refers to the height of the sidewall but this is a percentage of the tyre width, not a fixed measurement.
So, even if the 2nd figure ( say 70 ) remains constant, the overall diameter of the tyre will change and alter the speedo and height of the vehicle.
