Hi,

ebay has a truckers sat nav system which is supposed to be suitable for motorhomes, you can put in your vehical specs and it gives you a suitable route. Has anyone tried them and would you recomend any suitable system Thank you

Always use a TOMTOM myself...not however with the advantage of putting in sizes of vehicle. The only thing I can help you with is, some SATNAV's ( I call mine the SATNAG!) have lifetime free updates...others do not. Do you have access to Camping and Caravan Club monthly magazines. In August 2012 issue Vol 107..No. 8 on page 65 is a question and answer page of should and should nots. Hope this helps.

If you're going to buy consumer electronics from a no-name Chinese trading company, please do so with your eyes open.

The item will probably be of adequate quality, but if you need service/support/spares, you can be fairly sure that the "Masai Electronic" trading company in Hong Kong won't be around for years to come.

Their typical trading model (for tablet PCs and smartphones, as well as satnavs) is to badge a generic cheap product with their company name, flog their 200,000 units production run and then vanish - to then re-appear as a completely different trading company with the next product. That way they can undercut the "known names" by needing no budget for customer service, support and continued development.

Hi,

I Know I'm going to regret this but we have travelled extensively throughout Europe and the UK using a normal SatNav system including Microsoft's Autoroute and so far have never had a problem, that couldn't be resolved by a 3 point turn or going around a block.

So I really don't see the need for a SatNav specific to Bigger Vehicles, albeit our Motorhome is only 7.5 metre x 2.4metre x 3 metre high, perhaps if you had a larger RV or an Artic then perhaps it would be different

hope that helps

Garmin are offering their latest sat nav which is perfect for motorcaravaners if you are in the CCC its being offered with £50 off, but I believe it will be available to anyone.

Just some of its features, vehicle type and size, 5" screen, free map updates up to 4 a year, for life. Uk and 45 european countrys, over 15000 POI. the list goes on.

Not cheap but the best never is.

Hi,

Checked out a mates SatNav that has a setting for trucks etc. when we set it up with Truck as the chosen vehicle the journey distance was substantially more than the normal route we take, it had re-routed us several miles in what we know as being unnecessary in the wrong direction, just to get us onto the motorway network.

So be careful some of the settings could add substantial mileage to your journey, that may be unnecessary, unless you vehicle is as large as a truck ?

Hope that makes sense.
