Mick S....I prefer to use my MH as often as I can....I stay at sites ( especially in winter) that have a facility block. I have never stayed at a site that has anything other than spotlessly clean facilities...and would not. I also use those same sites that have water points all over them...in Winter these may have a smaller number. I dont mind the exercise to walk to a water point to fill my 5 litre container( re cycled after purchase of water within it, from supermarket) That way...my water container is renewed each season. I never use water for drinking directly, from the fresh water tank. I boil all water from the tank for veg washing, tea/coffee making etc. Our van is just oveer 12 months old, and I have never used the water for drinks, and most certainly would not. We do not 'cart water' we take 3 x 5 litre containers...2 of which are empty, and the remaining one with maybe as much as 1000ml ( 1 liitre) in it for a drink , if we stop on the way.( or to flush the loo!) I have never asked anyone on board our van to slum it. We have a roof on our house, which I have to say is not wasp or bee proof...But a hole big enough for a pigeon to get in would definately be classed as slum housing to my mind. Quality of water.....I am vererinary qualified...if you knew what I know about water ( and tap water as well) you would not drink from a stored water container. I answered a question posed on a a genuine enquiry.I fail to see how grumpy comments are of interest to anyone. Thanks..but no thanks!
I have to say that I do use the water straight from the tap in the van and have never had a problem.
As for using the facilities in the van, I would normally use the showers on site simply because (a) I've paid for them (b) there's more space and (c) it saves refilling the on board water tank so often. We were surprised how often we have to top this tank up and then realised that the toilet flushes from it too.
You don't say wether your van is an English or foreign van. Foreign vans normally have inboard water tanks and inboard pipes, because in Europe, it gets cold in the winter, usually accompanied by the white stuff. English manufacturers, especially Autofail, sorry, Autotrail have their tanks slung underneath, and you then have the privilege( because of there poor design) of forking out yet more money for a tank heater. Listen Autotrail, it gets below zero in England over the winter.
So maybe your motor home is one of the properly designed ones,
Happy motor homing through the winter.
