I have a solar system similar to you which i fitted myself. 120watt panel and a 10 amp controller ( 120watts divided by 12 volt = 10 amps ) I would think the previous owner installed it, they are very simple to install 2 wires from battery and two from the panel. batteries connected first and away you go free electricity. The system is fully automatic the controller charges the batteries from the solar panel when they are full the charger floats the the batteries at full charge. My controller cost £8 or less off ebay has 3 lights low, half, and full charge second light tells when panel charging and the third is for an auxilary light when it gets dark auto switch on. Obviously the lcd in your case has to be switched on, but if your controller goes wrong buy the cheap version http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10A-20A-30A-PWM-Solar-Panel-Charge-Controller-Regulator-12V-24V-Auto-Autoswitch-/290787564113?pt=UK_Gadgets&var=&hash=item43b44a1a51 Pete
