HI, excuse my ignorance! My autocruiser is parked in my driveway and having not driven it for weeks, the leisure battery appears to be dead. Can it be charged up by plugging some sort of hook up fitting connected to a normal 3 pin plug ( like the ones on my TV, computer etc ) then plugging that into my hall sockets and ito the hook up bit that I use if I'm on a site?? and if so , where could I buy one from?? sorry if I'm not very clear, hope you know what I mean.

This would let you use your hook-up lead, but you may need a specialised charger (or a new battery ) depending on how "flat" it is.

Yhe lead that Bob has shown you is widely available in any motorhome/caravan accessory shop or ebay.

Just plug it in and see if it charges up before worrying about a special charges.

It's probably an alarm draining the battery.

If the leisure battery has fallen below 12.5 volts you may well have a problem getting it re-started again therefore a new leisure battery may be required. The battery should'nt fall below 12.6 volts at any time and for this reason many people charge them periodically or leave them on permanently connected to a smart charger which is designed especially for leisure batteries.

I think the above is rather misleading, 12.7/12..8 and the battery is full, if it goes down to 12.5/12/6 its still full. the danger is when it starts to go down to 11.5 volts, in my hobby with a gel battery its gone down to 10.7 without any problems, and its fitted with a cut out to save the battery.24

With the usual lead acid 'wet' battery (i.e. not AGM or Gel) you should not go below 12.0v = 50% capacity.

I don't think the information I provided is misleading at all. When a battery falls to 12.2 volts it's only half charged and at 11.9 volts is fully discharged so 11.5 volts as you mentioned would be absolutely duff. I believe in supplying the facts so have a look at the link below on the 'State of Charge' chart as this shows on a percentage scale exactly what charge is in the battery.

My vehicle battery goes down to 12.1/12.2ish (due to alarms etc.) and gets a recharge every 3 or 4 weeks (when not used).

When fully charged and rested it reads 12.5 maximum!

It's at least 5 years old and has only ever given slightly higher numbers.

My leisure battery never drops below 12.5!

I check every week or so when we don't travel.
