if its a retro van youre after then there are plenty of clubs/forums out there ont tinternet to make sure you get a decent van at a fair price! i really wanted to start from scratch with a base vehicle and go from there but the boss wasnt up for it, she thinks i have far too many proects on the go already - i am thinking of surprising her though and actually finishing one!!! shame you dont know anyone who could lend you their van, from what i can see its not cheap to hire one for a long weekend, but i think trying before buying is the way to go. perhaps a prospective seller might offer the option of trying with any hire fee etc being deducted from the sale price if you go ahead? you can only ask and the worst they could say is no (however they phrase it )
