hi again, have now collected the honda stepwagon and it drives like a dream, insurance via adrian flux at a very reasonable price (i read through the posts on here and they did come highly recommended) i need to be a member of some sort of c&c club to keep the additional discount that was applied, so the question is, which one and why?

 

i have 30 days to sort it, starting from ........... NOW

Have belonged to both...and have never stayed at a site of either....However, now just the one ...Caravan and Camping Club...the so called friendly club. I understand that sometimes club enrolement is part of insurance request....so have to say that C & Camping was my choice for a reason. The info and sites book was the reason for not staying with Caravan Club. No other that I recall. Still got the old stuff for the one we left, and it is said, though we have not tried, that you could enrol if you get stuck without a pitch/site if they had one available. So choose 1 or the other...not much to chose between them. Happy Camping....enjoy.

thanks nora, i will ask, just to clarify, what do you mean by an 'owners club' - i dont think there is a honda stepwagon owners club that is actually up and running (other than the spam ridden one on the web!!!), or do you mean a 'general' motorhome club?

If you are only joining a club to retain your discount, you have to decide if the joining fee - around £40 is cheaper?

My motorhome was only £168 a year to insure without any 'club discounts' So what are you paying with and without?

There are various benefits to be had as a club member, but it depends if you were going to make use of them once joined.

thanks mick, i am paying 229 with via adrian flux, which i thought was a very good price after doing some price comparisons via the web. the discount is 15% (though not sure at what stage that it is added as that can differ greatly) - so even at 15% it works out at around £40 which is the cost of joining the caravan and camping club, so i might aswell get the benefits of membership

ps, it wasnt the cheapest price but happy to pay a bit extra for peace of kind re claims etc being settled, IF they were ever needed of course!!!

i did a trawl on here and af came highly regarded

I'm a member of the Renault Trafic Motorhome Register, which is a club for owners of Renault Trafic motorhomes. I don't know what your van is (sorry, never heard of a stepwagon) but that's the sort of thing I meant.

As you say, if the discount and the club membership is about the same, you might as well get something for your money.

I've been with Adrian Flux for several years for various vans and found them very competitive and good to deal with - plus the added bonus of getting all your documents by email.

thanks nora, i have just asked af a few questions about types of alarm etc via email and they resonded with 10 mins each time !!!!!

ps, not many people have heard of the honda stepwagon, so youre not on youre own 17

 

looks like the caravan and camping club for me aswell !!

From looking at their website it looks to me that the range of clubs you could be in to get the discount is fairly wide - they even mention web forums so perhaps this one might do!
Quotes from the website: "discounts of up to 15% if you belong to a recognised web forum or camper owners club."
"If you belong to a recognised owners club or enthusiasts' forum, you will receive a discount of up to 15%, depending on the policy taken."
So you might not need to join either of the two big clubs but they're still worth it. You would be OK in either club - have a search of previous threads to see the differences though if you plan to use club sites you might feel a bit more at home in your Stepwagon on C&CC sites which tend to have a greater variety of units on them. Yes I've heard of Stepwagons, they look good!
By the way, apart from all the owners clubs and forums that Adrian Flux might recognise for a discount there is also the Motor Caravaners Club which is a properly recognised club like the CC and C&CC (eg they are allowed to run rallies and CLs like the big two) and the annual subs are cheaper than the other two clubs.

For the record, i dont know how 'cheap' my cover was, but i never ask for 'the cheapest'. I tell them i want some right cover by a reputable company. And thats what i ended up with. As you say, its pointless paying nothing for insurance, if nothing comes back when you need to claim.

Good luck with your van and whatever club you end up in. Theres reams of debates on here to do with 'which one?'.

well dont know about saving on the insurance i am with adrian flux and nobody said anything about having to join a club ---but if you join a club -do you save on campsite fees and which club ? we have camping and caravaning club the caravan club both accept motorhomes/campervans then there is motorhome clubs for just about every type of motorhome/camper not to mention the naturists ---or the hedonists--all want a fee and forgive me for thinking isnt caravans campers and motorhomes about having cheaper holidays breaks as and when . why book almost a year in advance ? for a campsite  might as well book flights and go package holiday  so which club and why and how mutch and so many clubs is it all worth it they all seem to just want ur money or do they?

I joined the Motor Caravanners Club at the NEC in October and think it might be worth checking out. I think it was £25 to join, which I thought was pretty reasonable.

We already used one of their CL sites but now get the members discount, and another one we're looking at is £8 a night including electricity, which is cheaper than a lot of the big clubs' CL/CSs.

We haven't been on any of their rallies as we do need electricity for heating and hot water but my friend went on one sand said it was very friendly.

We joined the C&cc because they seemed the most child friendly, the old dear on the Motor Caravanners clubs stand at the NEC said well we do have some Grand children going sometimes when we mention our children....I mean I might have had a hard paper round but theres no way I'm old enough for grand children!!!!
