Simple really, the higher the voltage the higher the wattage, if you get what I mean, so if you intend to use say a high heat output heater of say 3000 watts you would need at least 10 amps, there is a simple way of calculating the wattage=volts=amps but I can't remember it, maybe someone else on here will explain at how it works.
I assume you mean amps, as the voltage is the same as in the UK.
You can work out what you can use by multiplying the amps by 230(the voltage), so a 5A circuit will let you use appliances up to 1150 watts and 10A is 2300 watts etc.
5amp will allow you fridge, lighting, tv, laptop & phone charging, stuff like that, but not anything that get very hot very quickly like electric kettles & fan heaters.
As far as your M/H is concerned the amps (not volts) makes no difference. As others have said the difference is the number of appliances you can use at once. Tentz has explained admirably what can be used on 5amp. 10amp will allow a little more.
If you exceed the amperage limit no big deal the circuit will just "trip out" and need to be reset. Something you can do yourself by flicking a trip switch or the warden may need to do it if in a locked box. Just don't call them out too often!

But you need to know the wattage of each appliance to work out how many amps it will use - you can then work out what you can use on each EHU.
Indeed, but for those that can't do that sort of maths there is always the rule of thumb. If it gets very hot, very quickly its likely to trip low amp ehu.
