Hi
We have a motorhome with a bog standard cd radio stereo, the reception in chronic and you can change its mode of operation simply by pressing anywhere on the front panel!! I guess it's some bad wiring but really want to get a new radio with a USB thingy in order to connect the iPhone and get my music playing. Is this an easy thing to do myself? And can anyone recommend a radio stereo??
Thanks

Hi wattsy, go to Halfords mate they have a fantastic choice of stereos and fit them free, there is a sale on now and some bloody good stereos to be had cheap, I got mine from there fitted free and like you its an MP3/USB and aux JACK. It only takes less than half an hour, although that depends on what model/chassis is your motorhome.

I recently got this and fitted it myself, easy peasy!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTRONS-TD714SGD-7-Double-2-Din-GPS-HD-in-dash-Car-DVD-Player-SAT-NAVI-/400449925431?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item5d3cacf137

its a double din, meaning its twice the size of a normal car radio (it was for an imported jap car which was converted to a campervan) - you can get them as single din aswell - I added a reversing camera aswell! is been great so far and the sat nav is really clear and accurate - even in france on some small side roads!

as regards fitting it, most radios have the same universal connections nowadays and they simply plug in after releasing the two side slide out securing lugs.

ps, your radio might be a touch screen if you can change radio channels by just touching the front, it might be supposed to do that?

Have a look here Available from tomorrow.
I've had one for a couple of years with no problems - they have a 3 year warranty and a bargain price.

I am really pleased with it because it meets a variety of needs. with a really clear sat nav for all europe, dvd, ipod, bluetooth for a hands free phone etc. I bought the model that has digital tv aswell, but I am not convinced I really needed it or will even use it, but I suppose time will only tell!

there are single din models aswell that do exactly the same thing and I think is ideal for a campervan because you can even fit a reversing camera. I fitted mine the other day, its great. it automatically goes into reverse camera mode whenever you select reverse gear (by taking the live wire from the reverse light <simples>!!)

the lidl one looks great value aswell though but is a basic radio, but if that's what youre looking for then I doubt you would get anything better for the price its on at. be quick tho, lidl offers tend to go pretty quick !!!

it is probaly the ariel not the radio, i had problems with mine but i changed the ariel and bingo great reception. on my van the ariel cable just runs up the pillar and is bolted to the roof behind the cab light. so any over cab section destroys the signal. i had a ariel fitted onto the side of the front wing that runs up the windscreen piilar.

I bought the radio from Lidl last week and fitted it OK but took it back 'cos it kept scanning for traffic stations and muted the sound until it got to a station and then played 3-4 seconds of audio. No good at all. If you turned off TA it worked OK but that defeated the object. Other than that it worked fine!
