Anybody using one on the back of their Motorhome? Any tips etc?

Check your max laden weight and then take the van to a public weighbridge to get actual weight at both front and year when the van's fully loaded, with particular attention to the rear axle load limit. Then add the weight of the scooter and the weight of the rack to the back axle load. It's surprisingly easy to go over with something like that on the back.

If you're over and VOSA stop you for a random check, they won't just let you off with a warning these days - it'll be points and a fine.

Many thanks but all that is done. We have nearly 700kgs available and the scoot weight is only 87Kgs.

The rear axle weight was calculated by the factory for us. No issues..We were also given the axle weights as our van rolled off the line.

Sorry I should have said this in 1st post. We will still be weighing before the off though. Just wondered if anyone doing this and if any tips available.

Most of our use is mainland Europe. (we had to give up Motorcycling) The scoot is a classic 65 Vespa..

i used to have a removeable rack that carried a 50cc, scooter used it to tour the isle of white, took it to scotland but the scoot stayed on the back due to rain. it was ok for running to shops etc. didn't even know it was on the back. only have to watch when backing up and which way the scoot is loaded onto the rack ie: if it can only go on one way there could be a bank of earth or a hedge stopping you unloading. had it for a couple of years then moved onto a harley. ( too heavy for a rack) now i have just sorted a smart car with a A-frame, and tow that.

Hello Guys. Thanks for the interest.

I have two classic scooters (I have restored 5) The Vespa is a Sportique .Douglas of Bristol built in 1963 and registered in 1965. One of the last made. Its a great little bike but quick / powerful it is not. It should be ideal for small trips into local towns etc..

The other that I have is a series 2 LI 150 Lambretta. It has a tuned 186cc motor and fairly flies along (for an old scooter that is). These are two that I probably will not part with.

Classic cars are my real passion though. I have a 1973 Lotus Elan Sprint. Real show winner..Restored it 2009..Just after a Bypass op' ...

Can one not post pics on the forum?

Thought about towing a trailer with the Elan on but costs are high for ferries etc.. +++ all the disadvantages of towing apply..

Does the A frame comply legal wise?

I will use a trailer to take the car and poss' the scoots to the shows we attend.. I'd love to post some pics but can't see how to..

Wow. It was the Sportique in the 60's that I craved, but my Dad wouldn't let me get one. Then, 45 years on, my kids bought me a new LXV for my 60th birthday, one of the Vespa 60th anniversary models. Then the following year I started with the first of 4 operations, so I know something of the feeling that we should get stuck in while we can.

We had a scooter rack fitted (PWS) to our Elddis because I wanted the freedom of being able to use a scooter. Bought a rack, had it fittedand then bought a scooter. Unfortunately, my wife refused to ride on it after one hilarious journey around Poole! The scooter is now sold but if you are interested, you can have the rack for £25 - just to see the back of it. Bit of a waste, for me but there you go!
