Hi, can anyone recommend a motor home insurance company that covers for a weeks hire. I'm borrowing a motor home soon so need to get cover. One i enquired had an excess of £1000 which seems a bit excessive.
I don't think you will find any company that will offer that facility without a heavy excess, a friend from Australia found it was cheaper to insure for 6 months rather then his one month stay, as he was borrowing my then camper, i'm going back almost 17 years and he was pleased with the arrangements, I think its the same story in Australia.
An excess of that amount on a cover for a week's hire of a MH seems reasonable to me. What premium did they want? Do they offer a lower excess for a higher premium?
Can you be added to the owner's cover?
If she/he is willing, that might be the better bet.
I take it it is a private arrangement, not via an RV hire company.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
I agree with Mike above - I loaned my camper to my mate and was charged an admin charge of £25 to alter the policy and nothing else to add him on mine (he had several years no claims). This was for a full year's insurance too. Bargain.
The company was HIC - I have always found them excellent for classic policies and cheap.
If you can't be put onto your friend's insurance it may be cheaper to take out a year's insurance. You could opt to pay monthly and then just accept the cancellation fee.
It may make a difference that the camper doesn't actually belong to you.
