I have had a vortex exhaust system fitted to my Ducato 2.8JTD

The company promised me better fuel economy, smoother engine and better performance. I was a bit sceptical but their staff convinced be that their system would be my best option.

My van is a 4.5ton 126bhp engine on a tag alko chassis so is a heavy and underpowered beast. The old exhaust was a poorly designed system because due to it running across the handbrake cable it hung low down and always hit humps and bumps. It was also very rotten so needed replacing anyway.

I saw wheeler dealers on TV. Ed China fitted a vortex on an AC Cobra so I googled them and contacted them.

I must have been well impressed as I travelled 220 miles from Leeds to Essex have it fitted. They allowed me to stop in my van outside their depot as I drove over the day before.

After the system was fitted I set off back to Leeds. I immediately noticed my cab was quieter. The new system has 3 silencers instead of 2. The engine sounded slightly smoother and although performance will never be great the van was definitely better. Acceleration is improved and where previously I had to use 4th gear I managed the whole of the A1 stretch of my trip in 5th. At motorway speeds I used to have to louder my radio as speed increased, I now don't need to do it anymore. I can now answer my phone on hands free and be heard.

I refilled my diesel and calculated an extra 11.5% was used on the trip out compared to my return trip. I have not used my van very much since except for a trip to the Peterborough motorhome show bit it was very windy and my van is tall so MPG will be effected however I still managed to keep the van in 5th gear on he motorway and got around an extra 1.5 to 2 MPG than usual.
Has anyone else got one of these systems fitted?

No, but you don't mention the COST. So people can think ie. is it worth it, I have heard of the vortex system when I was in the states not long ago, and I do believe that the system was designed in the usa. But if expensive how long will you have to keep the van to recoup the outlay.

You've done the exhaust end.

What about the air intake end?

When I was a taxi driver, all I did was drop in a K&N panel filter in to the air box.

No adjustment to the exhaust end, but I knew straight away there was a difference....

Where I taxied, it was very hilly.

Before the filter, I had to change down quite a bit on certain hills. After fitting, no need to change down a gear - even with 6 adults in the car too! 17

Less gear changes in normal driving too which means another fuel saving.

Never actually worked out the savings, but I did notice a difference...

I have had 3 of these Vortex exhausts fitted to some of my cars. I like the idea of more power and economy. Also as I keep my cars for a long time as long as it pays it self off and then some I am happy.

Now I have 10 cars, and no I dont have Vortex exhausts on all. Well if it did give better power with increased fuel economy, then I would have installed them on all of them.

I find that they do make the car drive better, cant argue with that. the exhaust does blow the air out a lot faster. But as its faster, does this mean more air so still the same pollution but diluted in more air dragged though the exhaust?

Second fuel economy. On all cars driving them the same and on long distances (same route to Saltzburg) I have noticed no improvement in fuel economy. If anything the display shows marginally less, but as I said I can't see an improvement in MPG even though driving the same. Most of the time on cruise control at 85mph in Germany.

Again on my uk only work car, millage has not increased at all. Again miles per tank are simular but if anything slighly less. Not more which is dissapointing.

So the cars I have them on, would I take them off, not really as the cars do drive better. But if your looking for better MPG try chipping or remapping.

We travelled to the Peterborough show this weekend and we averaged 20.89mpg. Every trip we have made since fitting the vortex we have seen improved economy compared to before. I have seen over 22mpg on a couple of occasions. I have calculated that I am seeing 11% better economy so I am happy with the system
