Hi there

I am going to view a couple of these motorhomes and I believe one is just a 2.4 diesel and the other is a 2.5 turbo diesel, I understand there is going to be a difference in power, what I want to know how slow is the non turbo engined vehicle likely to be ?

It will be welcome to the 1980s, remember Ford Escort 1.6diesels & Sierra 2.3diesels? Ok once you get them up to speed but takes a while to get there. If you are used to modern diesels you won't be impressed, but 2.4 is a good engine though, 74bhp & if you are worried about repair bills, probably a better buy than the 2.5tdi which is also ok but will cost more to fix if it does go wrong. It depends on what 2.5tdi engine is fitted, older ones were either 87 or 101bhp but can be chipped up to about 130bhp.

Thanks Tentz for the info.

I'm no stranger to older engines as I run a P reg Toyota Estima TD for work, so I won't expect miracles, I currently have an LDV Maxus which I converted and it gives out 95 PSI  if I can get near that I will be happy.

I went to see the oldest one today, to be honest it was a no no as soon as I looked in the shower and saw the mould, engine didn't seem to bad but there was a strange rattle underneath.

we are hoping the T reg model we are viewing tomorrow will be better.

This chipping sounds interesting.

Yes you can chip/remap turbo diesels to considerably increase power & you can take the older 2.5tdi up to about 130bhp, I think. Later versions of this engine were available up to 174bhp as standard from VW. A remap is the proper job not one of these ebay boxes that increase fuel delivery.

The T reg one was great good condition all round apart from the front silencer box being well gum gumed, tail pipes rotted,  windscreen washer motor not working a little rust around the wheel arch reversing camera a bit hit and miss and one door lock iffy.

We had a good test drive and it felt great and was very nippy, so we knocked a few quid off and left a deposit

Hopefully we will bring it on home next week.

Now the big push to get the Campervan in top order to sell, I have had a set of new carpet tiles waiting to be fitted for about 8 months so I made a start on that yesterday pm, nothing like a new van coming to kick me into action !
