Via Michelin should help.
From Glasgow to Barcelona and Back approx...
Fuel £900
Tolls £230
Ferry £200

Lots of different routes and options, so could avoid most tolls. Also there are different ways of getting cheaper ferry costs.

See http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/ferry-routes/ferry-to-france/dover-dunkirk/

If you are thinking about next yr, then forward plan for ferry booking, look out for special offers like caravan show code, you should get Dover/Dunkirk ferry for about £60return. Eurotunnel is much more expensive, but gets you across in little more than an hour, probably £200ret. but you can use Tesco clubcard vouchers to reduce cost.

Work your tolls out on autoroutes, put in car/caravan option, same rate as motorhome, class2. If you go Calais to Perpignan on Spanish border all toll it is 112€ one way, but with a motorhome take 2-3days & you can pay little or no toll, just use the old national routes. Diesel is cheaper in France, less than £1.20/litre at supermkt prices.

Spanish tolls are cheaper but away from the coast the roads are so empty you don't really need to use toll autopistas.

Great info, thanks everyone. I love the input you get from this site.

Sounds more expensive than I anticipated. Yes next year, we still haven't bought the motorhome though looking on all ads daily. Is it easy to find places to park in Spain for a night for free rather than booking into a campsite? Need to start thinking on how to economise. :)

There are motorhome aires in Spain but some you have to pay for ,as for free camping if you park or attempt to park overnight in the more popular coastal areas you may get moved on by the Policia Local or even get a parking ticket .If your going to wildcamp in Spain make sure your away in the middle of know where and just use your common sense .
Personally I wouldn't for safety reasons , there are plenty of cheap camp site's in Spain

Aire de service campingcar, in France, not to be confused with a motorway services also known as an aire. Its a dedicated motorhome parking area usually with water & toilet emptying service point payable by coin in slot. In popular tourist areas you have to pay to park but in quieter areas they can be free. Many towns have them & they are signposted.

France is very motorhome friendly & you will often see motorhomes parked on bits of ground in towns etc that may not be proper motorhome aires but are unofficial & nobody objects.
