I took myself off with the two dogs for a trial night to test out my new (to me) Autosleeper.

I took the hill to the peg too fast in excitement and span the wheels and got stuck.(Duhh!)

I parked too far away too connect the hook up first time (duhhh!) and then ran over the dog bed I'd put under the van when driving closer. Thank goodness the dogs weren't in it!

I wasn't sure if I switched the right switch for the electric and wondered all night if I was drawing off the leisure battery (elementary I guess...but not for me)

in my haste I forgot the matches to light the gas hob so after hours of thinking I'd have to go without a hot drink I realised I'd packed the electric kettle!(Duhh!)

I didn't pack my phone charger and on texting a friend to say I couldn't answer as I had to preserve my battery for emergencies only...the phone went dead.

I haven't figured out the bed infills/combinations yet so slept partially sat up but was warm and cosy.

BUT!!!

It was a great experience and I woke up wanting another few nights of the same! Sadly had had to return to real life but I will be back ASAP!

Gas lighter, couple of quid, to light hob, saves burnt fingers.

You don't mention which autosleeper, but if i'm not wrong most of them have a rock and roll bed, did no one show you how to use the on board facilities when you bought the van?????

Auto-sleeper used rock and roll beds in very few of their vans (Trident and Trooper?). Most that I've seen/owned have a "two singles or a double" arrangement which takes a bit of cushion swapping to make work.

Forgetting things? We all do it. I do every trip (last one like you was the mobile phone charger). I try to remind myself that it's a holiday, and that there's no reason to get stressed, no matter what turns up!

Thanks all. As it says on my profile I have a Symbol. It has rock n roll beds but I just wanted to use the long side single so as not to squish the dogs. (One of who broke wind all night but neither would own up!)

I went and parked with a sea view today and wanted to impress my friends by making them a cuppa with my new 12V kettle. I set it all up with the seats, the table and my plastic 'beach hut' table cloth, side door nicely open to the view...as you do...and had run out of water! (Duh!!!)

A kindly couple from the next campervan gave me a bottle of their water. Fellow campers are a kind breed

I think we have a misunderstanding about beds of that name!

The term rock n roll specifically refers to the type of double bed ~normally~ fitted in VWs, where the back of the rear double seat "rocks" over forwards to form the front part of the double bed - so the bed is formed from the seat back plus a fixed platform behind it - and the bedding rolls forward from where it has been lurking in a heap under the back window.

I don't ~think~ a Symbol has that type of bed, though it's true that the model had a few variants, some of which I've never seen inside...
