hi all !! after recently selling caravan and buying a tent, my oh has now got the m/home bug , so spent the weekend looking , , bad idea as this has just fanned her flames even more , we have seen a few with the overhead sleeper , ( even though there are only 2 of us ?? she is now thinking!! it will be there for when we have grand kids ?? ) what do you all do ?? ie use it as everyday transport ? or just put it on the drive/storage to use when you can and still use a car for everyday use ?? and what about insurance ?? for the year or limited use ?? and then the seat belt question for when we are taking our future grand kids ( wonder is she knows something , i dont ), now my head is really starting to hurt , going for a lie down

Unless you are buying new and plan to keep for 10yrs I would forget about accommodating future grandkids for now.

You could buy something with little-ones in mind and find it doesn't suit you in otherways, say bathrom too small for example and have changed it before they even come along.

I think people only tend to use them as an only vehicle if small/medium sized vehicle, or as a second vehicle. But it really depends on individual circumstances, and if you have parking for 2 vehicles.

Everyones requirements are different.

Jules

Agreed there are many variables.

If you think you might use it as an everyday vehicle, you'll ~probably~ be looking at a panel van conversion with a pop-up roof so that you can get in car parks.

My last 3 vans have been my only main vehicle, and I've never had a problem with that, though mpg might be a concern if you do a lot of "round town" miles.

We have a full size/height motorhome which is our second vehicle.

We do use it as often as we can and have been out 5 times this year and have another 4 times already planned. Going to Germany this month for 10 days so will get plenty of use out of it.

We have a 4 berth but only 2 of us. We tend to use the over cab bed as extra storage for the bedding and chairs n'stuff.

Go to as many showrooms as you can and get inside the vans. Sit in them and imagine yourself using it.

A shower was not a priority to us so didn't want an extra shower room. We wanted rear seating which would either be single beds or somewhere to get laid down on during the day for a nap (sea air gets me every time!)

Think of how you will use it and what you want out of it and you will be half way to getting what you want.

Hi there,
We sleep in the overcab so it's not a problem for adults as Long as you are able enough to get up and down there, it's great as it saves making the beds up, our kids are in the bunks and the other one goes to sleep on our bed and then we move her down to the side sofa when we want to go to bed.

I would definitely go for the layout that suits you, you can always swap it when grand kids come along if and when that happens, unless the layout you want would accommodate.

When we first had ours we shared the car and if I needed it my OH would take the motor home to work with her as she has a big car park to park it in, just make sure that you otify the insurance that you are using it for commuting (I think it cost us about £39) more to add that on.

We did end up buying another car as circumstances changed and i needed the car a bit more so now have 2 cars and a motor home but we do use it if we go out for day trips, or going to get big stuff from ikea and things as well as holidays.
