Taking the van to Beautiful Days festival in Devon in August - driving from Scotland - anyone suggest where to fill up with water before we get on site to minimise effort filling the water tank up?

Hi Luke',are travelling down in one hit?

...we've been going since 2005 and ever since having a camper'/MH we've tended to stay over at a CL the night before and fill up there..

Last year we stopped over at  CL in Chedder:

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=12310

Having said that, prior to them switching to opening on the Thurs afternoon and still opened first thing Friday, we stayed at a couple of CLs very  local to the festival..

(Gosford Park- Ottery St Mary and Beer Farm- Broadhembury, Honiton, were a couple..but sorry I haven't got their full details anymore)

If you can't use CLs(as not members of CC)then we've used this as an M5 stopover a few times:

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=7751&map=on#maphere

...and just an "easy" 10-15mins off J13. (...Although it's still a fair trawl down to Escot!)..there will undoubtedly be something closer...

As Sdc777, says petrol stations would be an option(although I've never filled up at one myself)..

Personally, when heading to festivals, I always tend to want sufficient water with us(just in case the festival supply is hit'n'miss),even if that means travelling with fullish tanks..

(..although it does seem a crime to be wasting valuable "beer-payload" on water!? )

Sorry to have waffled on about stopovers we've used ... rather than where you can get your water...

Regardless where we go, we always leave home with a full water tank, because you never know when, or where you will want some.  mpg wise I found that it makes no difference at all.

Although I tend to agree Terry..that is only an option IF you have the payload to do it..Not all 'vans have.

..personally I wouldn't really want to be travelling all the way from Scotland down to Devon, when/if I was knowingly overloaded..

(..Once fully loaded with kit, beer & cider, we would've been a bit near the knuckle payload wise, that's why we tended to finish filling up at a stopover local(ish) to the festival...)

Should be OK on payload - was just thinking of minimising weight for a long journey - have now got 2 25l containers ans a wee electric pump so should be able to fill up on site if necessary.
will probably just drink the beer in the festival - it is Otter brewery doing the bars....

Hi Luke..

Slightly off topic this...

Personally, unless you're equipped with extra leisure batteries and/or solar panels,as you'll be off hook-up for 3-4 nights, I'd be saving the 12v "reserves"...and just opt for using a large funnel for filling...

(..you don't want to have your water pump stop or your lights dim on the Sunday, just because you've drained the batteries filling the tank on the Thurs/Fri..).

Chris

Yep, don't want to be running out of juice at the end of the festival
