I guess in the end it boils down to the kind of holidays you like to do.

We have a motorhome as we tend to do a day or so in a place and move on. We leave a campsite in the morning, visit a place or attraction then find somewhere else for the next night. We repeat this every few days generally. We also like to see somewhere on the way home from hols whereas caravan owners tend to get off straight home.

My in-laws have a caravan and also my best friend. They tend to go somewhere and stay on the same site for a week or two and do trip in their car for the day and then back to site.

If our holiday style changes in the future I would change to a caravan, its all about having the right tool for the job.

We are happy to use bikes, buses etc and park out of towns. My parents borrowed the motorhome for a trip and didn't like this aspect as my mum doesn't like to walk far and neither of them cycle. They are back to using villas and aircraft to go away.

If you love the caravan and the style of holiday it gives you it is probably best to stick with it.

Ben

MH....keep moving.....it's convenient.

Caravan....stay static for a week or more.

We stayed on a very well located site in Devon last month for 5 days.....In 5 years we have never stayed longer than 3 nights anywhere.

On the continent it's always one to three days only.

Well I think you have helped me make up my mind, I will keep the van, because I dont like to keep moving I will go away for a week or so then come home so in that case having a caravan would be the best for me. Thanks again you have been a great help......

I've had both and currently have a motorhome. I love our motorhome for many reasons and would not go back to a caravan. Reasons to love a motorhome:

1. It literally takes seconds to set up when you arrive.

2. You can wild camp with a motorhome. It's amazed me how many places there are where you can park overnight. We parked right on the beach on the east coast and it was brilliant. You can't do that in a caravan.

3. When we go out and about we can stop for lunch and sit down at the table in the motorhome and have a proper meal.

4. We stopped enroute last week for a rest and I went to bed for an afternoon nap!

5. When it's time to move on we just go.

6. Like others have said, it's easy to move around. When we had a caravan we just stayed in the same place. Now the world is our oyster and we're loving exploring with our home right beside us.

One of the big differences people worry about is not having your car, but don't forget a MH is your car. You can park it just the same as a car (you need a bit more space, obviously), but we haven't had any trouble at all with parking. What we like when we go out for the day is that we have everything with us. We can also leave our dog in the MH on a hot day, as it's very well insulated, (unlike a car).

You can't park it just the same as a car if there is a height barrier and you have a hi-top, User2.

LOL. Sorry if I sounded pedantic, user2. It's just that we were looking forward to a spending spree in Go Outdoors the other day and couldn't get out van under their car park barrier.

Yeah, those height barrier things can be annoying. I suppose the point I'm making is when you have a caravan you get used to setting up camp and going out in your car. Folk tend to think with a MH you're stuck where you are once you've arrived if you haven't got a car. We're going away with our friends soon and they have a caravan. They've just suggested to us that we bring our car with us as well as the MH, which kind of proves my point. I just told them that we'll do what we always do - find somewhere to park the MH when we go out and about. We also take our bikes with us, which is always an adventure and beats sitting in a car for fresh air, fitness and fun, lol.
