I have a laptop computer that I want to take with me on a holiday in a motor caravan using an inverter connected through a cigar lighter. I shall be static for three days. I do not know the technical details of either the laptop or the motor caravan battery but is it possible to say how long the motor caravan battery will last?

Without the details, it is impossible to say how long the battery would last !

What size ( power) is the battery.?

Is there anything else running off it ?.

Do you only have the one ?

What's the power draw of the laptop?

Right, I will change direction. We will not be using a TV but we will be Motor caravanning in the dark months so will be using the lighting a lot. I may be using the laptop for up to four hours a day.
So, what about a generator. I suspect these have advanced yonks from those I used as a signaller many years ago which took ages to start and gave out very little power?
I would welcome some suggestions.

Generator is good but what about a solar panel to keep the batteries topped up? It really all depends on the size of the laptop battery and what you are using the lap top for and how big your MH batteries are. And a load of other things that work off the 12v (water pumps etc)

laptops are very power hungry .... you can tell by how hot they get.... and using an inverter just increases the power usage... the best option is buy a tablet or run laptop direct from 12v by using a suitable charger... Maplins were doing one for £20.00..... TV's and laptops are the quickest way to run down your batteries
