I've had one of these for the last 4 years.
Pros - effortless riding and very handy.
Cons - heavy to lift - not easy to pedal when battery goes flat - needs an EHU to keep it charged up - costs £200-£300 to replace battery (mine is starting to fail with a much reduced range )
I have one and I agree with John. They are definitely road only bikes though as I have found out riding it off road. Effortless riding Yes but if I was younger I would prefer my pedal cycle.

There are companies that rebuild batteries, try a "Google" search

Sadly I have looked at having the battery rebuilt, but many firms want more than for a replacement battery If anybody has found anywhere that sells the batteries (new or rebuilt) for less than £199, please post a link on here - I'd love to save some money
I've been looking at these bikes as well.
Every Dealer that I've been to is keen to sell me a bike but I have never seen the same manufacturer twice.
Our local shop warned me that a lot of these manufacturers do not have any spares back up. There are a lot of bikes on ebay and if there's any hint of electrical problems, forget it
I've tried to find out which bike had the greatest volume sales in the Netherlands as electric bikes are a growth market there but no luck so far

If you stick to the main brands you will be fine for spares/backup.
A lot of the cheaper eBay bikes are a 'container full' that someone has imported and these are the bikes that can make getting spares difficult (for the electrical side anyway).
My advice would be to try as many bikes as you can before you buy. Check out the UK's electric bike forum as there are many members who can offer you advice on specific models before you hand over any cash!
I have a connect folding electric bike which I have used all summer and i bought it for £599 in Halfords. It is brilliant for using at campsites and going on longer journeys if you dont have the health to ride an ordinary bike. You will get about 20-30 miles from some batteries and they can be charged overnight.
I have had a operation on my knee which has played up for years and I will have the option to make it easier
when I need it, I will mainly be going in to the local village for shopping but mainly on tarmac.
