I will be leaving for 6 weeks in Benidorm tomorrow, and I've just read on tinternet that snow chains must be carried in case of snow, Do any of you that travel through France in the winter carry snow chains.

John.

Never had the need, as long you stick to main routes, ie, I never go over Andorra in the winter months, if you using the Tunnel de Bielsa, you may at this time of year be lucky and still pass over with no snow, we went last January and used the tunnel with no problems, ie, 13/1/2013 and returned same route 21/2/2013, of course I would double check before you go as everybody knows the weather may change without notice. I wish I could join you mate, but my trigano has to go back yet again to the dealer for a fridge pcb. I hope its within the next couple of weeks.  Enjoy the trip and brings us back some sobrano

The law is that snow chains must be carried and must be fitted when signs indicate they should be fitted or on snow covered roads unless you have winter tyres.
A strange requirement is that 4x4 and camping cars should fit them to all four wheels

d’un 4x4 ou d'un camping car, il convient de monter les chaines sur les 4 roues afin d’éviter les pertes d’adhérence du train avant.

Should have said they are compulsory in mountainous regions , the roads have signs indicating which routes,
I shouldn't think they would apply going to Spain unless you cross the Pyrenees

Hi John, a relative travels down to the higher levels of the Massiv Central each winter and has met with snow most times in the winter. He says that the local police don't worry you over snow chains unless you get stuck and obstruct others.(Apparently they don't pester the known local drink drivers either ! Unless they have an RTA !) Enjoy your new motorhome!

Check the weather forecast when you return, if there is snow in the middle, then take the coast motorway route back up to France & then on the autoroute through France past Nimes, Lyon, Reims etc. Most expensive in tolls but probably the quickest route back to Calais.

I'm not on the tribby forum anymore as I brought our auto roller in 2011.

Heads Up - They've just had snow in the Alicante Region.

Stick to the main highways and you should be fine.
