when I rinse/flush the toilet with trap door closed should the water remain in the bowl until flushed/ turn the knob; as mine seems to seep through rather quickly; could it be my seal/ no smells though; should the flap be fully watertight? or should it naturally seep away? i am concerned it may be faulty, but dont want to start replacing parts, if this is how it was designed; only had the vehicle 2 weeks now still experimenting with everything;oh its a thetford electric flush, trap door(whatever its called) is manual, am I showing my ignorance? sorry

The water should remain in the bowl Howard ready for the next useage, it does rather sound like your seal has perished on your tank.
If your unsure how to replace it, give the tank a good wash out, and take it to any good caravan dealership that has an accessory and repair shop, and have it replaced. Some people may atempt this as a DIY project, but if you are unsure of your own capabilities with this being your first motorhome, you could end up creating further problems if the seal ended up fitted incorrectly.

Do you leave water in the toilet bowl? I've never heard that before, I always leave mine empty.
Nora
Likewise.
If you leave the water in the bowl the air rising through the cassette flap when it is opened causes a large bubble to form and you get your own back if standing anywhere near.

For quickness i poured the blue stuff down the toilet only to find the flap was closed over sooo,i opened the flap.Secs later i was covered in blue, face, clothes everything (wife said i looked like brave heart) My main worry was if it got into my eyes.
I stood there in the garden in the middle of march with the garden hose above my head pouring freezing water down my body etc.
So far as I know the correct way to use the toilet is to open the lid, flush (this lubricates and protects the bowl etc), do whatever you want to do (with the blade open or closed - it's your choice) open blade if closed, flush again, close blade.
The instructions on ours say quite clearly that water etc should not be left in the bowl, especially when travelling.

No, I had never heard of this "fill it, so it's ready for next time" method before either..(..well, that is, not 'til I read Romany Girl telling someone else what to do a few weeks back..).
In the OP's case, this "seepage" may not even be just the fault of the seal..it could also be that the linkage/mechanism isn't closing/seating the blade fully..? and it may all just need a good poke about with and clean..?
Just a thought(..not a very nice one, admittedly! )

Hallooooo Mr Blue, da de da de............................
Seriously though, air bubbles coming up from the tank suggest to me that the seal has not been lubricated. A spray of Thetfords Silicone Spray onto the flap and around the seal should cure that.
