I have not got any of the ones mentioned but have a TomTom Start 60 with the Camper Maps installed. We live in MK so go via Buckingham quite often and one difference I notice is that the car software wants to take you through Buckingham where as the Camper Maps takes you round the bypass. (sensible in both cases it you ask me!!!) I stll check the route just in case.

We only have an ordinary Garmin - fine for the car, or for the motorhome on A-roads. But not good for a motorhome off-piste. Then we use WifeNav in map reading mode to check the pretty C-road isn't too steep & bendy - our old motorhome can do it, but too often we've met folk coming fast downhill who cut blind corners, and a hill start in a loaded van resulted in the smoke and smell of a burning clutch. But WifeNav almost got fired when she forgot that the bridge over the burn would be as narrow as the road, and we all had to breath in to get over, including the dog. The SatNavs for lorries / motorhomes where you log in length and width do seem expensive, so I'll keep an eye on this discussion to see what ends up being recommended.

Thanks to all replies. We had a TomTom XXL and used it very successfully on several trips all over Europe. Recently though it was stolen. We decided to upgrade to something with all the ACSI sites, Camperstops, Aires and loads of other POIs and had narrowed the choice to the Ventura Pro Snooper S6400 or TomTom Go Camper Go. Anyway, having looked at loads of reviews for both we ordered the S6400 today. We're off to Spain for January so will test it then.

We have a Garmin and use this plus google maps to plot the route. We have a printout of the google route to complement showing where we have changed things. Garmin re routed very well when we went to the Mosel last summer.

I fully intended buying the ventura at the NEC show.I asked the chap on the stand to plot a route to Castleton cc site. The device suggested that the best route was via Winnats Pass. Anyone who knows the area will be aware that its not the best route for a 7m motorhome. I didn't purchase.

Have a look at the 'Mio' range, I've had two in 13 years had to change last year as the Euro maps were out of date, the more you pay the better the systems, but this 'Mio' is spot on except of course for the odd new round-about that pops up in French villages, does offer alternative routes and traffic warnings also speed warnings, overall very good.

You need a TomTom with LIVE services and HD Traffic.

The BEST traffic-system ever.

Since we got HD Traffic, we have NEVER been stuck more than 5 minutes in traffic in Europe.

We have that system, but ignored it a few weeks ago on the M6. Boy, did we get stuck! The problem was that the overhead gantries did not say there was a queue until AFTER the junction we could have come off at, and of course it was too late then. Also, before the junction it told us that to Cannock it was 22 miles, 23 minutes, so no reason to suspect a problem with that info.

TomTom DID tell us about it, but we thought the overhead gantries would be more up to date. Not so obviously, and we got stuck for over an hour between 2 junctions. We learnt our lesson that day, never to ignore it again.

I have had all brands of sat navs, I currently use the Snooper DBS8500 Truckman Pro. This is because I am a HGV Driver and it allows the vehicle profile to be inputted and then the routes are calculated on this basis.
It has the 7 inch screen which is great as it is very clear. The CC have one produced by them for Snooper which is very similar to mine but orientated more to caravans and motorhomes and is pre loaded with CC and ACSI sites.
Well worth the money especially with lifetime map updates.
