My b/f and i,have just put in an order for a new Fiat Ducato high roof van.We are planning on a self build,to turn it into a camper. We need lots of information and advise please as we are totally new to this.We previously had a trailer tent, and were planning on upgrading to a folding camper, but finding ourselves with a bit more money than we first thought,we decided to go for a van.It will be ready for pick up in 8wks time,so where do we start please .........

Thanks

Hi Dollybassett

It would appear that the 'self build motor caravan club' is the usual starting point for most on here. www.sbmcc.co.uk

Good luck with the project, and let us all know how you get on.

Phil

thanks for replies,we are taking our time with getting as much info on self builds, have also been looking at converted vans for some ideas,so we have started to do some planning on lay out etc,and are planning a visit to o'learys over easter, unless anyone knows of a supplier for self build items nearer me (cumbria). I'm very excited by the whole project, have wanted my own camper since my son was a small baby(he is now just 16yrs),so have waited a long time. So i guess everything comes to he who waits !!!!

Happy Easter

Hello again,

An easier/quicker option than o'learys would be www.hartwood-elite.co.uk based in Preston, as it's just a (relatively) short hop down the M6, but I would suggest that you compare prices over the phone first before making the journey. Sometimes it's better to travel further if the price difference justifies it. If you do decide to go to Hartwood Elite then ask for John and tell him the rep from Albert Jagger Ltd told you about them. Who knows, you might just get a better deal, and we might get a bit more business from them

Hi

Self built great, I rebuilt a narrow boat some years ago and I would sugest going to boat chandelers to check out there prices which I found a lot cheaper for fitting etc, but one tip for what it worth when you do your plumbing use plastic pipes  a bit dearer than copper but will give you less trouble in the cold weather, plus going to boat jumble sales is well worth while for most of the things needed can be purchased very cheaply, go into your local newsagent and look in the Yachting/Boating mags where you can find the adds for jumble sales, iI purchased new sinks, lights, and gas fittings for silly prices.

Best of luck, and if I see a narrow motorhome going passed my home I will know its you
