Hi could anyone help me just about to order new autotrail savannah automatic it comes with 130 BHP engine but can upgrade to either 148 or 177 BHP of course at extra cost but would it be worth it.!!!!!
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks Pat
It's a lot of van to lug about with a 2.3l engine. But of course if you go for the 3 litre you will inevitably pay in fuel consumption.
IMO there is no substitute for driving one to see what it feels like on the road - figures on paper just aren't good enough when you're spending that much on a van.
You can always have the engine remapped?? I have had my last three motorhomes remapped and been very happy with the results, my last one was on a ford mk7 2.2 hobby siesta 6.5 metres long, and the average consumption was 32 to the gallon, the best it was 34.5, now its a fiat 120 mj 2008 and the average so far is 36.8. I think the remap has to be cheaper then having to fork out loads of dosh for an alternative engine.
The 3.0litre engine will have better torque so more pulling power giving you a more relaxed drive at motorway speeds with little difference in fuel consumption so better for long trips down to southern Europe for example. If you can afford it, go for it.
I used a fueling device on my Auto trail 2.8
Basically plugs into the injector lead 2 minute fitting time so the ecu isnt touched.
Gave me a lot of extra power especially torque as i was towing a trailer with a heavy Motorcycle
It allowed me to stay in 5th a lot longer so fuel economy went up to around 28 mpg 30mpg when not towing.so it eventually paid for itself
They state the sellers that is improve BHP on that engine taking it from 122 BHP to 156 BHP but i would say its a little less. as i have now a 150 bhp renualt to compare it with.
But it did make a difference to driving seemed much smoother
I had vacuum cruise control fitted pre devise on a hill it came off with the devise it stayed on most times.
They are around 100 pounds or less much cheaper than a remap and when taken off the motor become standard for emissions in MOT.
Thanks folks for your advise these forums are a great sorce of of help.
We are going to travel world the weekend to put deposit on motorhome and yes thanks. Going for bigger engine. Only problem got to wait till sometime in May for delivery. So it will be a nice wedding anniversary present for me and the wife.
again thanks folks.👍🚍🍻.

Which "device" did you use? a link would help if you've still got it
I removed the device when i sold the camper i will check what make it is this one did have to have a 12 volt ignition fed supply i have seen others without on flea bay
try searching
FIAT Ducato JTD Diesel Tuning Box Chip
I purchased mine for £230 new i believe they have reduced in price.
My post probably too late but I'd go for 150 as we did with our AT Scout and just right. Also got free automatic upgrade as it was coming off the line with no home!
