Hi, just asking for some help. We bought our camper van Nissan El Grand at the end of last season and only used it a few times before the winter. We soon learnt that the small drive away awning with no ground sheet was not a good idea. We are looking for a large awning that runs parallel with the van, has two double bedrooms and has a sewn in ground sheet, any ideas guys??? After months of searching my Husband insists on 5000 weather proof and we have come across the Kyham XC 2013 version at a reasonable price but the reviews seem to say that the plastic poles are very easy to split and break. It has everything we want but if this is a problem then I just know it will happen to us when Hubby gets a bit heavy handed to get it up lol. Also as I was trawling I came across some fixing poles that had magnetic clamps either end and simply stuck to the van. They were easily removed when you wanted to pack up, of course now I want some I cannot for the life of me find them again, if you know of any magnetic fixing kits please let me know. Any help would be most welcome. Thanks. xx

These aren't magnetic but suction...any good?

Isn't the El Grand a large people-carrier sized vehicle?..if so, couldn't you just use throw-over straps, pegged down the other side of the vehicle..?

Thanks I will check them out. Yea it's van size and the awning we have is throw over, so easy to use but the new bigger awnings don't all have the guy ropes to do this. Thank you.

..although I've noticed that the links show  them being "sold out or no longer available" Oops! sorry

If/as they don't need to carry a pole(but just need to fasten down the apron fabric),take a look on ebay  for "suction cups"...

We bought some to replace the ones holding up the "silver screens"...they were very good(stronger than originals) and cost just pence.

(they were available with all sorts of different ends/fittings).

Worth a try for the money involved...

Another way is to hold the awning pole with guylines over van roof & pegged into ground the other side.

We have an outdoor revolution xlf awning that we used a few times with our last van.. Its pretty big. Used to easily fit on the side of our vw crafter conversion (to the awning rail (comes with fig of 8 strip)).. We also have the strap system required to put it over the van. It has the two bedroom inner tent also and storm straps.
We will never use it again as we have a different van now..
It was used in some pretty awful conditions and we had no probs at all.
We're probably looking to sell it if you're interested
