Hi again Alf...
Although you'd clearly stated it, I've only just twigged that you've got a Hi-top(so presumably fibreglass?), for some reason I was picturing a pop-top! .. so please dismiss my, silly, "magnet" suggestion..
Our first van was a Hi-top Transit(Duetto) and although that did have a gutter rail, hooking to that gave various degrees of success(...it would sometimes "flap off").
I did try a few "dry runs" using the throw-over straps but ours had a lot of roof "furniture"(3 skylights/vents,an aerial etc) and they kept getting tangled..so I gave up.
..and although that was several vans ago, if we had kept it, we would have bitten the bullet and looked into fitting a proper, neat "C" profiled, awning rail.
(*I should point out that at the time, we were using an Easicanopy "tarp" and/or a small caravan "porch" awning, so unlike free-standing drive-aways, both of these did require a strong "mounting point" to tension from).
So...if I was you, for now I would perhaps have umpteen "play-abouts" with the existing awning(on the drive'?) just to see how the "apron" sits and how much bigger it needs to be to sit right on your roof(..and to check that the straps aren't likely to get tangled)..
I'm guessing here but judging by how I remember some of the "XL" sized drive-aways that I've seen against large MHs, they may swamp a relatively small campervan ..?
(..and not forgetting, the bigger it is, the bigger the b*ll ache it is to put up/take down..and dry out, when you get home! )
For a greater chance of first hand feedback from Granvia owners, it may be worth just contacting the forum Mods, to see if they can/will change your thread title to include "Granvia" and "Hi-top" ?
Edit:
An idea I did toy with at the time, was using several suction cups, attached to an awning/"J" rail..Something like these:
