We are very taken with a Hymer we have seen on the internet. Can anyone tell me what mpg they generally achieve? We are looking at used campers, due to budget, but I don't want to find a bargain and realise we can't afford to use it much!
Also can anyone recommend any dealers in the West Midlands/North West?
I guess you might not be aware that Hymer have been making motorhomes since 1971 or earlier, and they have made numerous different models on different base vehicles since, so referring to "a Hymer" probably isn't precise enough. With that level of precision you will probably get somewhere between 8mpg and 40mpg on a long run.
Forgot to say. There is a big difference in using a Motor Home and a campervan. If economy is the big factor and you can compromise on space and convenience then may be a campervan is the way to go? Ours WILL achieve 60 mpg driving sensibly on a long run. Nissan NV200.

Hollyvan, have a really good, long look around at as many options as possible. keep a record of your favourites so that you can revisit a dealer or find a similar model. take your time and enjoy choosing. best wishes

Low Profile motorhomes with lower than normal roof lines generally use less fuel than Motorhomes with an over cab bed. Broadly speaking the smaller the frontal area the more economical the vehicle will be (all other things being equal. Such as weight, number of wheels etc)
A typical 2.3 turbo diesel Fiat van conversion can get around 38 mpg on a run. We had a 2 litre petrol overcab Excaliber which did 24 mpg on a run. There are lots of comments on other posts which can be searched for, which should give you an idea of what to expect.
Perhaps have a look at Adria Twin (versions) and Trigano Tributes for a "luxury" , reasonable economy van conversion.

We have got a Hymer A class with the 3lt fiat engine, driving at 60mph returns about 25mpg driving 70mph and above returns about 20mpg hope this helps you.

Our "low profile " Laika, 7.5m long, 4.3T weight Fiat 2.8JTD engine, gives us around 19-23mpg with the Smart Car on a trailer and 26-27mpg without the car and trailer.
Doesn't seem to matter which manufacturer as most of the vehicles are built on Fiat front ends and an Alko chassis.
