He is a technician working for money & has to advise correct way of doing it the way he sees it. The box does not actually have to be steel lined & you don't have to spend £500. Most important is that gas bottle locker has hole in floor at lowest point so any leaking gas can escape as lpg is heavier than air.
Its your choice, if you felt you needed outside help to check your work then you may want to pay for a professional job. Common sense needs to prevail, if you are capable of building a camper interior then you are capable of building bottle locker, with bottles secured & drop out vent in floor I would have thought.
