Hi all, has any one had any dealings with Motorland at Croft nr Leicester? They are advertising (in a motorhome mag) a van we might like but no website or pictures. They are quite a distance from our home so would like to know a bit more about them before travelling.
Thanks Joan

Take my advice , DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THAT IS TOO FAR AWAY FROM you, I did in the past and I have learned my lesson, think if anything goes wrong how far you have to travel to get it fixed!!

That sounds like good advice for you to follow ,i have just got very badly stung by a dealer like that , so make sure first and if deciding on getting one make sure its road worthy and sound before you buy, even if it comes with a full MOT

Agree with all the above advice!

Even with a new van under warranty from a large dealership you may decide to ignore (or fix yourself) the 'more minor problems' on your snagging list rather than driving a long way/spending a day or more away from home to get it sorted by them.
We bought from a reputable dealer about 1 hours drive away - even that can be a bit of a pain ... just to fix some thing simple - especially as it means booking ahead anyway.

Hi Joan..

Yes, that is the main problem with the "Buy from close by" approach...

After having umpteen niggles with one van, which was only bought from 40min/1 hour away, I swore blind that I'd only buy from a dealer even closer to home next time..

So what happened?....we bought from a dealer, 3+ hours away, Highbridge, down in Somerset!?  .

..but in the 4+ years we had it, it never *really missed a beat!..So it was never an issue.

(*we did have the water gauge looked at one  Friday, arrived there mid morning, they lent us a car for the day, which we spent at the cost, then we picked the van up at tea time and booked on a site in the area).

Obviously choose a dealer that is reputable...but if they are some distance away, ask yourself if it's an area of the country that you wouldn't mind travelling to and/or spending the odd night in. At least then, if any minor tweaks are required, there's the chance of factoring in the odd night away..?

Hi, we did that with the van we've got now, went from norfolk to yorkshire, saw the van while we were there, went back a week later to collect and must say that we were happy with the deal and no real problems 5 years since. we're getting on a bit now and don't really want to travel too far but would like a change to a different van with single beds, that will hopefully last us 'til we have to give up altogether and after 38 years of motorhoming it will be a sad day!

another vote for Highbridge I bought a new van in2012 any problems they authorised tamar towing here in Plymouth to do the work
I've recently had to change car and van for a motorhome due to health problems a good trade in deal from highbridge and once again any work is done in Plymouth which saves a round trip of about 200miles for me
