Well, we have now 'tested' our MH (Bessacarr E495) and are really pleased with the 'u' shaped lounge at the rear layout.
The vehicle is fitted with a nice light sand coloured carpet which is held in by press-studs. This is in three sections, cab, dinette/cooking/entrance. I have removed this from the cab as I feel it will get dirty quickly. It is good under foot at night in the 'lounge' but I feel that in the day the carpet in the dinette/cooking/entrance area (middle bit) will tend to get dirty as well.
So what is the solution? 1) Take the carpet in the middle bit out, or 2) leave our footwear outside or 3) cover the carpet in the day time.
I would be very interested in how other members deal with this.
We never use shoes inside the MH, we have a mat just inside the habitation door entrance and we leave them on that, then put slippers on if it's cold, or nothing when it's hot.
In summer we take all the carpets out, but put them back in winter.
Our kitchen is in the middle too, but the carpet there (when it's down in winter) hasn't got dirty.
We keep our shoes on as we use the camper as a day van too so chose a carpet the dirt won't show on. Sand, mud, grass etc all hoover up or wash off pretty well.
I would remove all carpets and keep safe. Brand new when part x or sale. Then purchase end of roll or off cut (s) in darker shade of bleach proof carpet. I supplied everything and carpet fitter charged me £ 25 for fitting to my tourer total out lay £ 69 with end of roll of 3mtr carpet x 5ft 1 inch. Use plain carpet so can be twisted slightly if need be to fit awkward shape of floor with less joins I had only one join which was in end bathroom under vanity unit and left hand side of wc, which didnot get walked on. I cleaned with Le- shark steam mop before selling New owners refused to remove stating it was to good to take up and kept original carpets for when they resold

This is what we do also although we have an end kitchen.
As for the carpet in the cab, I bought some see through mats from Halfords which have a raised edge to them, I believe they are called ' snow mats'. They look nice and have kept them carpet in as new condition.
We remove carpets for the summer but replace in the winter - The vinyl floor can be very cold under foot when it is frosty outside.
The carpet isn;t as easy to sweep as the vinyl so we take a G-tech mini vacuum / carpet sweeper thingy which works well.
We too put a rubber mat by the habitation door and (mostly) remove shoes - In the winter, in the privacy of our van we commit the most heinous sartorial sin - Crocs and socks but at least it keeps the carpet clean.
Guy.
------------- It's only an expensive hobby when it's parked on your Drive....use it, love it , live it.
The thing with a 'sticky' clear carpet protector....the ones you see over the carpets in showrooms....they have a reminder on them to remove as soonas the 'van is soldand to be used. Apparently...this 'sticky adhesive will attract dirt if left on carpets for a long period.
We in both of our new 'vans have removed the fitted carpets ( the bound edge /press stud down type ) and placed above new carpeting bought cheapy as mentioned above, and marked around the original , so creating a pattern to cut around. We then copydex the edges to prevent shedding when vacuumed, and the pristine as new carpets are then either put in roof space...or slid under our beds. We are going to try a winter without any carpets at all this year, as they must weigh a fair old lump. That way we can use the weight lost to add more weighty clothing. It may yet be a dissaster, as we hate cold feet. If you do make a pattern yourselves for this type of carpet removal....remember to make sure before you cut ...Mirror image?
Be sure to make quite certain that your carpet 'to go back in' when selling has been stored correctly or this could be a time waster...ie dont store where rats and mice can get at it.....they like to be warm too.!
I think that we will go for something like this at the door, then shoes off and into a plastic box under the dinette table out of the way. She who must be obeyed likes the carpet so it has to stay!
We covered the lot in a mosaic of almost-matching carpet door mats (from a supermarket) and carpet samples, apart from hard wearing areas like the first part inside the back door and by the kitchen where we put rubber mats. When the mats get dirty, we sling them in the washing machine and we finally replace them when they wear out. We did try the "leave the outdoor shoes outside" routine, but we don't use an awning so they just got wet from morning dew even though they were tucked underneath. And the dog always has wet paws. I think MH manufacturers put these pale carpets in to make the interior look light and airy, and because showhomes have these neutral colours. They are totally impractical for camping.
