Hi, hoping somebody can help....I seem to have (yet again) stepped into a minefield.

We have a 'big' tent setup which is perfect for camping for a fortnight plus - takes forever to set up and rig down but is very comfortable if we plan to stay out somewhere.

On the other hand it's a complete nuisance for the odd night or two away and we've decided that we may be better off getting an awning to attach to the side of our Vauxhall Vivaro with sliding side door. We have a more than adequate pop up tent to sleep in so the awning is more about providing a sheltered cooking / sitting area. We'd like something quick and easy to erect and reasonably priced!

Silly question - can you really drive away from a drive away awning?!

Can anyone give me any advice or recommendation?

Hi..

For a bit of shelter/clobber-storage against a relatively low roof van, I would(once again!) recommend a Quechua Base tent

..and if needs be, to bridge any gap, just attach a simple tarp to any roof rack fasteners?

(we use/do similar with our current Hiace..)

I would love to get a Quechua Base tent, but don't want to pay silly money, anyone know where to get one that isn't going to be lots of money? Seems loads got sold at £30 last year...missed that and didn't know about them at the time!

Yeah, I know we missed the "£29.99/end of season" type ones, a couple of years back as well!  (...as we thought that we had enough awnings/tarps/canopies as it was!) .

.and they did seem to disappear altogether for a while?....

But in the end, after scouring the web and ebay type sites for ages, we decided to bite the bullet and pay full price...but we have felt that has been worth it, as it makes setting up so much easier..
