Has anybody got any views on alarms that sense anyone approaching you van while you're asleep or away from your van. Are they a waste of money or a sensible buy?
I wouldn't want an alarm going off every time somebody came close i.e. walked passed.
I just use a motion detecting alarm in the van when I'm asleep. I tuck it around a corner, facing the doors, so that I don't set it off whilst sleeping or meandering for a wee
I for one would not appreciate you parking next to me with such alarms fitted ie, proximity whereby they can go off even if animals in general get close to your van, on the other hand if you go on ebay there are loads of window alarms you can fit, I have some fitted to mine but only use them when we travel abroad, any one trying to open or break in, it will sound a very loud shrilling sound to wake people in near vicinity to hopefully scare the opportunistic thief/s away.
I've been trying to post a picture of our alarm but don't seem to be able to do it - now off to read Papa Pip's posts in the "Feedback, Ideas & Help" section
We were only thinking of fitting one to use when travelling in Europe not on sites. Other than sleeptight ( very expensive!) Does anyone know of other companies or ideas that would do the same or similar job?
Like people, dogs only smell if unwashed. Even in the period between dogs, we didn't feel unsafe in UK i.e. needing an alarm, on site. Crime or fear of crime? An alarm won't protect you against the stun gas pumped in through the open windown will it?
I have never felt the need for such an alarm. We have camped all over the UK, France, Germany, Luxembourg Switzerland and Italy. We are two lassies and always camp in proper campsites. Most frightening experience staying in a B and B in Blackpool. We were the only guests. Should have read tripadvisor!!!!!!
Thanks for all your feedback guys, we've been camping for the last eight years through France and Spain without any bother so guess we'll just carry on doing the same. To Fiona, I was only joking!
No worries, townteam. Our previous dog woke us once, very deliberately, wouldn't take no for an anwer - we thought she wanted out for a comfort break so we got up. Same thing was happening to the warden with her dog, we found out next day. Turned out to be a thunderstorm approaching - she could hear it (or sense it) when we couldn't.
