Is there a name for the type of car radio that gives the name of the station in the display? ie Radio1, Heart Radio etc.
My cd has stopped working and it's hardly cost wise to repair it.
Thanks.

My 10 year old Golf's radio says what the station is - I think they all do. Sony, Blaupunkt, whatever. Newer cars have DAB radios, which tell you the name of the track that's being played which is handy if you like something.

It's RDS, isn't it? If you look at the wiki, the standard encompasses several other acronyms (EON, PTY, etc) which I see on my radio but can never quite figure out how they function!

I always think car stereos must be some of the least intuitive bits of kit to use, that have ever been devised!...

..we're looking to replace the old faulty one in our Hiace...but  I want something with less piddly little buttons and less "features", not more...!

..maybe I should be  looking in the  Early Learning Centre or Toys'R'Us !....

Totally agree. What happened to the ones with two knobs that you twiddled to find a station and turn the volume up/down?

I hate to admit it, but I'm of an age to have hung a little tranny radio from my rear view mirror!
