I have been looking at the C&CC book for 2013/2014 which I have borrowed from my brother-in-law. We are not currently members but I am planning to join. I am loosely planning a trip next year staying one night in various areas and then moving on.
There are lost of the small certified sites so it would seem to be easy to 'book as you go'.
Looking further into the 'regulations' it seems to me that there is a minimum stay of two nights on a site. This would of course slow us down and in effect double our journey time. I may therefore be better off not joining and sticking to independent sites.
There is a minimum of two nights on club sites (ones that the club owns or manages) but I think this is during weekends over the summer holidays and bank holidays. I may be wrong here as I've never booked a pitch on a club site.
However, all the certificated sites are privatly owned but are part of the clubs network of sites. Most certificated sites don't have a minimum stays and I've stayed on loads for one night only. Some of the more popular ones may do over bank holidays.
Agree with the above (including never having booked a Club site ), but this might help.
(As well as Club Sites and Certificated Sites, don't overlook Temporary Holiday Sites, where you can often turn up when you like and leave when you like (within reason), with no need for advance booking in many cases. Have a look in the Sites for Holidays section towards the back of any of the Club magazines to get an idea of what was available this year and will probably be available next.)
Because of their deposit system C&CC sites often have late availability so it might be possible to just turn up or even phone on the day. There is no reason, I don't think, why you can't stay one night its just at certain times they will only accept a booking for two or more nights. No such restrictions or deposits on Caravan Club sites.
We are C&CC members but don't restrict our camping to their owned / managed / franchised sites. Indeed, the C&CC Site Handbook misses out many sites that are listed here in UKCS as site owners have to pay to be included (we were told by one). We wanted to use Club sites for over-nighting on a long trip south, only for the convenience of not needing to waste time shopping around for a decent site. But at Easter, we were firmly told there was a minimum 2 night stay. It's even longer at popular sites - I think some of the Lake District ones are more than 2 nights and not just at Bank Holidays (but I could be wrong). However, I have recently read that C&CC is reconsidering this minimum rule after a lot of folk like us made it clear that we might not rejoin if we can't use sites for the one night we need. The C&CC Certificated Sites take tents (unlike most Caravan Club Certificated Locations), and therefore tend to be more likely to have a toilet and shower, which we prefer. Some parts of the country have more of one than the other, no idea why.
not in the c&cc now booked 1 night at cc Blackhorse at Folkestone when we caught the dover to Dunkirk ferry my mate tried to book one night at the c&cc site at Folkestone told they don't do one night bookings.so he went to dover and wild camped.so much for the friendly club?
Some years ago I turned up at a club site (didn't know it was a club site until I reached the gate) and was looking for a pitch for two nights. They said they only had a vacancy for one night so I had to go somewhere else.
I would imagine most campsites can accommodate someone turning up at reception just for one night. This must happen a lot when somebody books two nights and then somebody else books two nights with just one day in between.
