On my way to my last meet I discovered my offside side front sidelight wasn't working. To continue the journey I put the lights on full beam but when I arrived to park up, it was noticed one of the tail lights was also out.We assumed it was a fuse, and sure enough fuse number 6 had blown. This fuse also controls the instrument panel. I replaced the fuse, (a 7.5), but it blew straight away, so presumably I have a short. Has any body any ideas of the best means of approach to sort out this problem. My motorhome is a Swift Gazelle F 61 on a Fiat ducato chassis

Assuming you've had no work done on the van which might have altered/damaged the wiring, the first, simplest thing to do is to change both bulbs. It doesn't happen often, but they can fail short circuit.

Thanks Mojo and Jay. I do have a tow bar so I'll check that first, then see about changing the bulbs. Cheers

It may pay you to remove all the bulbs and give them a clean with 'Brasso' as surface corrosion can cause bulb failure and also clean the housing contacts and earth connectors with a small wire brush or better still a brass brush which is not so coarse. It happened to one of my rear lights on my caravan last year and if one bulb has gone it probably won't be long before the others show signs of failure. I removed each individual bulb and gave them all a polish which cured the problem. It's always wise to look for the simplest things first before looking for major problems such as a short circuit.

Thanks everyone for your tips etc. I checked on the tow bar fitting, that's OK. also I took off the lens to the number plate and back lights, that was easy ,just a couple of screws to undo. The bulbs were clean and perfect. This now leaves me the headlamp and instrument panel. How does one get access to the front lights? Any help appreciated.

Are you on the right thread? If so what is the relevance of your reply? Are you boozed or just taking the mick?

Your particular motorhome was available in both earlier & facelifted version of cab. Method of removal is different depending on year so question is relevant.

The year is 2001 on a Y registration. I did say it was A Swift Gazelle F 61 on a Fiat Ducato Chassis.
I apologise to all concerned if I misconstrued the previous post from MWooly10.
