I think my gas consumption will be fairly low. When I had the caravan instead of this camper car I tended to use EHU for virtually everything, only on gas for the odd overnight stop. In the new Lunar camper car gas is only for cooking so if consumption looks too high it will be an incentive to go to the pub! I checked refill costs of Calor, £3.72 Kg butane in the dumpy 4.5 Kg bottle and £4.10 for propane. Campingaz are ripping customers off. I did notice that Calor have pushed up the "rental agreement" quite a bit since I got my dumpy bottle about 10 years ago.

I like your thinking!

(..when we had our MHs, weather permitting, I'd still end up cooking outside on a suitcase stove...Hence, a 6kg bottle could last us best part of a year).

Lpg is basically a free product. Its a byproduct of oil refining so its there anyway. The costs are all in the handling/transport & bottle filling which is why larger bottle refills are not that much more expensive than smaller bottles.

Coming in a bit late to this conversation...

My little Daihatsu campervan only has space for a CG 907 bottle, however I did the calculations and I reckon it would take at least 10 years to pay back the cost of refillables. I don't intend to own it that long!

My concern was only having a single bottle and needing to source refills but again I've worked out that worst case I'll just have to get a full bottle before a long holiday and waste a small amount. In the overall costs a new bottle every year at £27.00 or so isn't all that significant. Fortunately I do have a reliable local source or two.

Glen
