I`ve just bought 10year old fiat doblo and wanted to make it into a basic camper. If anyone has done the same I would appreciate any advice/suggestions on the items best suited to this vehicle. For example the bed has to be 6ft or less. Thank you, Gerry

Putting doblo campervan into youtube search here brings a few results that might help you. You need to be careful here though. If you do a permanent camper conversion it needs to be like this & you need to register it as a campervan & if home made might be difficult to insure.

So way to go is a removable conversion that keeps it as a car or van & that way you can truthfully insure as an unmodified vehicle, ie whatever it is now & has always been.

That would be my chosen route, especially as you're only after a "basic" camper.

These seem expensive on first look..but they do give some neat ideas as to what can be done:

Thank you both for your help. DVLA was a nightmare in sending back my change of use V5. It was previously registered as an animal ambulance, now changed to MPV. They didn`t want to take my £180??? It Took 1month of letters, photos and e-mails to conclude. I will not make it a permanent conversion .It makes sense. thanks.

..now there's a surprise!...

In the past, we have found them to be shambolic with anything slightly out of the ordinary. We had cause to correct the GVW/revenue weight shown on the V5 of our last van..and it took months of emails, phone calls, letters, photos, visits to the local office(since closed) etc..I'd ask 6 different "operatives" and get a dozen conflicting answers!?!

They even sent me to a VOSA depot at one point (..and the chaps there told me that Swansea were, quote "..pi**ing you about mate!..").

..yep...best keep it as an MPV now...

Thanks for the support..I was turning into a right Victor Meldrew on the phone to them. Began wondering if the whole DVLA staff were saying, on loud speaker, !Hey guys, I`ve got that dumb bloke on again. Listen while I p.... him off again."                                   best wishes to you all. Say hello if you see a white Doblo at any of the meets
