Hi guys.
We are new to motorhoming and are already in love with our L reg Volkswagen autotrail Cree, coach build. However, we are having some problems and I'm really hoping some of you brain boxes can help! Firstly, we can not get our electric hookup to work at all. We have a Plug in system 1 with on/off switch, three trip switches and 6 12v fuses. There's also an amber push switch that has 12v written on one side. It doesn't seem to be doing much at all though! Neither the red light comes on when the van is hooked up, nor does the yellow 12v switch. I know it's rigged up because I can get all the internal/external lights working, the fan etc all works off the 12v fuses and apart from the first fuse, I've figured out what they all do. Our other issue is that we can not get the fridge to function at all. It's an Electrolux RMF 212,F, 3 way. Funny thing is... It won't work off anything! No lights light up and the piezo igniter for the gas won't spark so I can't light it off gas. So.... I have two main issues: the mains box with no lights on and no power, and the fridge not functioning at all. I've checked and changed all fuses....I can't find any other fuses boxes and apart from us perhaps having a dodgy mains cable or a dodgy mains box, I can't see what else it could be! You bright sparks got any ideas for me?!yours eternally gratefully. Kate :)

Hi...

This probably won't be of much help...

...but, have these never worked then?...if so, can you not contact whoever you bought it off?(..if nothing else but to ask if there's a "knack"?).

Also don't be fooled into thinking that the fuse boxes that you've found will be the only ones...motorhome convertors tend to tuck fuses and relays all over the shop!..

..So there's a chance that  there are still more hiding(behind or under the dash/next to the split charger unit/next to the leisure battery/ on the bulkhead under the bonnet etc?)

So unless an owner of a similar vehicle responds, it   would be worth seeking out and asking on an Autotrial specific forum(that's assuming there is one?)

Also if you've got the component name and model nos, it'd be worth having a Google to see if there are any manufacturer fault finding/support 'sites.

Oh! and welcome...

Unfortunately the previous owner has departed earthly life, hence us gaining the motorhome! They've never worked since we've had it. It's a coach built so I've had a good rummage behind/above things etc but no more fuses to be found :( anyhow, thank you for trying!

It's never easy to diagnose electrical faults on a forum especially when you have not one fault but two problems.

I would suggest you try to find either a reputable mobile Motorhome electrical engineer or take it to a local electrical engineer and ask them.

I don't know which part of the country you live but here in North Derbyshire I've found a couple of people who are capable of analysing most faults and sorting them out without costing a fortune in labour costs, Dealers usually charge a fortune, and there will almost certainly be someone in your area who is just as competent.

If you are still uncertain what to do you could ask on other forums, the free Out and About forum (www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forum) who have a lot of technical guys as members springs to mind, and see if they can help.

Start at the very beginning as in the ehu lead take the plugs apart and check the wiring at each end is in place . Check the flex...... check the back of the indeed plug on the van and work your way along the system..

This is where been handy with a multimeter or volt pen comes in if your not 100% sure what your doing get a spark to check it all over.... and diagnose..

Whilst you have him have the full system checked for safety sake if nothing else

Likewise its policy to get the gas inspected too

Hi and welcome,

Can I ask where you are that way people may be willing to come and look/help if you are near to them. As previously stated electrics are not something you can sort out online.

Regards

Bob
