Hi all just after some generic advice please, just got a second hand motorhome but no water comes out of the taps when turned on? The chap we got it off said it was a non return valve issue, but I suspect the internal pump isn't trying to start as I can't hear it trying to kick in?
Any advice on where to start appreciated.
It is an internal tank with a whale submerered pump & a carver cascade separate water heater.
Thank you

Hi Doug,
After reading around some other posts on here I suspect the next thing to do is spend an hour with a multimeter testing the electrics to the pump & switches to ensure I have the correct power etc, then if that's all ok, drain the tank & take the pump out. Just wanted to check if there was something simple that I had overlooked or if there was a common issue with water systems first.

Check the micro switches in the taps first if these don't work the pump willnot turn on.

Hi Sennen,
Thank you for the advice, but I don't think it's got that version on it it's a 1995 model so don't think it's quite that advanced? But I will check :-) x

Silly suggestion, but is the Pump switch turned on? Ours is in the Zig unit (by the dial showing the water level and leisure battery level). We turn ours off at night as the pump sometimes runs on a bit.

Hi Fiona, thank you for your comment, alas I think it's more serious than that, I'm beginning to suspect some wiring issues than need adressing. I think there's an issue within the distribution board & then further wiring problems, hence I was after a full set of drawings.
I have a reasonable idea what is wrong & have drawn up a new electrical circuit to spur off a different supply to get round it if I need to. But I would rather make a new loom & do it correctly if I can xxx

Hi..

What is it that makes you believe there are deeper. electrical/wiring issues?...are there other items not functioning?..

As has been said, have you tried just taking the pump off and testing it on the bench?(12v supply, some bits of hose and a bucket of water)....

For wiring diagrams, have you asked on any Swift forums?..

And check the fuse. Our toilet pump stopped working for that reason alone.

Have look at my web site: www.ourwanderer.uk I have dealt with the problem there.
If its electrical, get some wire, attach to battery, via a fuse and attach to pump terminals. If its OK it will start pumping.( take off one terminal 1st)
Having proved the pump you can look for other possibles.

OK so update.... I now have power back to the distribution board & after fitting a new whale submersible pump & flow regulator pressure valve we have cold running water & flushing loo. However there is no hot water (not even water from hot taps) and I can't stop the pump from pulsing no matter how I set it? Could it be the non return valve on the carver 2 water heater allowing flow to return causing my issue?
Also I hear it click on but no lights come on???
Thank you

Well done so far!

You still have a carver heater? I thought most packed up long ago and they're not made any more. Check for leaks too - our heater packed in one winter (our fault, we hadn't drained it, and the gas element was corroded so it was condemned at the habitation service) and it leaked - our pump wouldn't stop either, as it was feeding the wet carpet by the cupboard. It can also leak from the seal on the outside of the van - I don't think that bitty is replaceable but I may well be wrong. We got a Henry heater (others recommend a different make, but Henry was the official replacement) but it's about £300 so I hope you find it's a different problem. It lasted about 5 years, we then replaced the thermostat for £30 when it stopped heating unless the reset button was pushed in.

Can't help with the lights....  Oh, check the electric "immersion switch" is on: we spent a week with cold water until we found it deep inside the wardrobe.

Hi thanks you for the reply.. I have today ripped out the carver 2 and found a lot of damp wood that now need treating (grrrr) but in the plus side it is getting warmer so will dry. I took one look at the Carver 2 once out and now it's in the bin.
Does anyone know the best replacement please ??? And where to source in Dorset or Hampshire?
So I now have a pump that works & stops when the tap is off clearly the carver was leaking to cause the continued pulse.
Also will a new heater work on the old wiring loom & control switches or does it need rewiring and mods to the switches ?
All info greatfully revived x

Hi There,
The Henry GE is a replacement for the Carver - it also runs on electric if you are on EHU - not sure if the Carver ever did.

http://www.olearymotorhomes.co.uk/henry-ge-water-heater-1467-p.asp

Oleary's are usually good on price - but google it and you may find cheaper.

Cheers

John
