Hi..

On this "gearbox"(winch?) I would expect to find a drive shaft or socket of some description, something which can be operated via a(missing?)handle..

So you need to identify that first...

(..you may be able to use a socket and extension bar or it may need an Allen key or square drive type....? ).

Either way, I'd give it a good long soak with penetrating oil before I got too heavy handed with it, as they are prone to seize...

Edit: Looking at this, it appears to be either an allen key or star type design?

..although, if it is free and you do spray it with something, I wouldn't use WD40, not to finish up with anyway, as it's not really a very good lube (WD stands for "water displacement") and if anything, once it's dried out, it seems to promote rust!?

Presumably a Ducato and Boxer would be similar?..

Very late edit:

 Just remembered that there was internet chatter about Citroen/Peugeot and Fiat, having issues(some recalls) with certain spare wheel carriers(some cable ends came adrift, resulting in the wheel falling off)

So it's worth checking that yours has been mod'ed, if it fell within that category/age.

It may have been already done, that is why it is so new looking?..worth checking on.
